Senegal

This is a Senegal parrot. Their scientific name is Poicephalus senegalus. They grow to about nine inches in length. They weight about 125 grams.
Senegal parrots are originally from Central Western Africa.

This is my two year old . He loves to lay on his back. I had quite a fright when I peered into his cage and noticed that he was laying on the floor of his cage with his feet in the air. Chia was so still. I said, "CHIA, oh no!!!!" He sprung off the cage bottom saying "Ch-ch-chia." What a joker.

Chia

Chia is a true New Orleanian he loves red beans and rice! He and my other birds enjoy soaked beans. I use a variety of dried beans. I soak them overnight in the refrigerator. The next day I boil them on the stove for about ten minutes. I drain them and when they are cool I serve them to the birds. I generally freeze the rest. He also eats seeds, pellets and fresh fruits and veggies!
Chia also talks.
He only says a few words. I know that his vocabulary will increase. Senegals can talk but their speech is not as articulate as African Greys or Amazons.
