Subject: A personal Update for Jan and Feb 97

MEMO FOR RECORD: 7 A.M. Sun, 23 Feb 97 - 25 Snailmail and 70 Email-Matt

Well, today, Friday, 21 Feb 97 is a day to stay off the internet and off
email, but I didn't say I would stay off the computer. I need it to do
my Income Tax and to write letters, like this one.

At Breakfast I came up with a new idea for my homepage. I just add my
monthly happenings and by the end of the year I have my complete year
there so anybody "who wants to" can read.

I made a list for those to Email and those to Snail Mail this letter:

EMAIL: Jim, Dean, Dave, Terry, Krebs, Murphy's, Geiger's, GCHS, and CDC.
Mail: Bob, Decker, Durbin, Fiske, Morin, Randy & Monica, and others.

Two days ago I was eating breakfast and on the TV they announce that that
was the day that the Marines landed on Iwo Jima. A man sitting at the
counter said, "I was there". Well, this perked me up so I asked him
about it. He is Jack Hagen who retired twenty years ago and moved to
Florida and is now working as a School Crossing Guard for the Largo
Police. He will be 75 next month. He entered the Marines in March 1942
and got out after the duration.

I've seen the word, "Traipsing", twice in two days. I've never seen it
written before so looked it up.

Traipse: a. To walk; trudge. b. To wander about idly; to gad. c. A
fatiguing walk.

Trudge: a. To walk or march steadily, esp toilsomely or wearily. b. A
walk or tramp, esp a weary one.

Wander: a. To move about without a fixed course, aim, or objective; to
rove; ramble.  b. To take a roundabout or leisurely course; to meander;
stroll.

Gad: a. To wander about idly. b. A gadding, or rambling.

Tramp: a. To walk, step, or tread, esp heavily. b. To travel or wander
through on foot.

Rove: a. To wander; to ramble.

Meander: a. To wind or turn in a course; to follow a meander or intri-
cate course. b. To wander aimlessly or listlessly.

Stroll: a. To wander on foot; to rove, to ramble idly or leisurely.
b. to go from one place to another in search of occupation, profit, or
the like.

Ramble: a. To go from place to place without an aim or goal; to roam.

Roam: a. To go from place to place without any certain purpose or
direction; to rove; wander. b. To range or wander over.

Range: a. To rove over or through. b. To move over a surface as to
explore it.

Well, enough of that. My travels this year so far:

14-30 Jan 97 In Grand Coulee: Flew Northwest from Tampa-St Paul-Spokane
and return. I haven't gone Space Available since May 95. Snow on the
ground in GC and it snowed a few time while there. Dad is at Bob's
home now after spending a month in the Hospital and being discharged on
23 Dec 96. I was supposed to return on the 28th, but after hearing the
weather report I switched it to the 30th.

7-17 Feb 97 at the Mardi Gras (Who is Marty Graw?): I'll have to come
up with the number of times I have been to the Mardi Gras - about 8?
I used one of my Time Shares to stay in Slidell. It was a 25 mile drive
one way to the French Quarter. Slidell was the place that Jayne Mansfield
was killed in a car accident on 29 Jun 67. You can still see her movies
on AMC. Thirty years ago, but I can still remember the place I was when I
heard the announcement on the radio. I think everyone should attend the
Mardi Gras at least once. Then decide if you want to go again. It is
the biggest Free Show in the World. All the parades are on the streets
and you can see the Artist in the Park, and the costumes on the visitors.
I stopped with relatives in Tallahassee for one night both ways.

As a New Year's resolution I am staying off the internet and email on
Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays. That still leave four days to "waste"
upgrading Homepages and attending Sessions about Email.

I'm sold on the internet and email. So much so that I don't have a
recorder on my phone and people can reach me only if they catch me at
home. Also I check my email at least three times a day except for
Mon, Wed, and Fri. I can check my email from anywhere I can get to the
internet. I've already checked email from Miami, Los Angeles, and
New Orleans. So, actually, I can send and get my email anywhere in the
world if I can get to the internet. But it is very difficult trying to
sell this concept to my Relatives and Friends - but I keep trying.

Yesterday, 20 FEb 97, I spent from 6:30 to 8:30 answering email. Then
from 10 to 1 conducted a session showing someone about SCFN email and
Then from 1-2 updating themurphyfam homepage. Later that afternoon I
spent an hour or two more doing things. So that is eight hours on the
computer and the internet, but it is a lot of fun and I enjoy it.

Today, 21 Feb 97, Write and mail this letter, balance my checkbook,
withdraw cash from the bank, pay bills, read my mail, and asorted other
items to accomplish as I feel like it. Signed: Matt Pachosa 10:18
