Louis (Lewis) M. Cason,A E-mail letter dated 10 Apr 1997 from Bruce Howard, states that Lewis Cason enlisted on May 17, 1861 and served with the 8th Regiment Tennessee Infantry and musterd in at Nashville, TN. Under remarks was written "Deserted". There were no dates or other information. "As to Lewis Cason and his military service. Back around 1978 or 79, I (Mr. Bruce Howard) wrote to the Tennessee Archives and requested his military service. The information they sent me was that he served in Company K, 8th Regiment Tennessee Infantry; enlisted on May 17, 1861, and mustered in at Nashville, Tenn.; age 27 years, and under remarks was, deserted. Apparently the record did not give a date that he deserted. The person that sent me (Mr. Howard) the information made a note on the form that Company K was composed of men from Moore and Lincoln Counties. I (Mr. Howard) guess it never occurred to them that Moore County was not formed until 1871, but it was formed from Franklin County. So, I (Mr. Howard) guess we could assume that they lived in either Franklin or Lincoln County at the time. I (Mr. Howard) have never had an opportunity to go to those counties and check to see if there is a record of them ever residing there.
Pleasant James Mills County Memories by Mills County Historical Society, copyright 1994 in an article written by Mr. Bill Lane and I spoke to him on the phone to re confirm this information in Oct 1996. In this article about Pleasant James and Adaline Pace James, he wrote " The James family moved to Tennessee in the 1850's at the outbreak of the war, and Pleasant James joined the Eighth Infantry, a Tennessee regiment in the Southern Confederacy and was assigned to Company K. Also serving in this company was Louis M. Cason, a good friend to the James.
