Join adjoining side of squares as follows: With RS of 2 squares held together, working through both layers, attach A with sc to one corner, * ch 2, sk next 3-dc step, sc in next sp between steps; rep from * across edge, ending with sc in corner. Join squares in 7 strips of 5 squares each; in same manner, join strips.

Border: Rnd 1 (RS): With larger hook, attach A with sl st to one corner of panel, * 3 sc in corner, work (ch 2, sc in next sp between steps) to next corner of panel, ch 2; rep from 8 around. Join with sl st to first sc.

Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), work 3 dc in center sc at corner, dc in next sc, * (3 dc over next ch-2 lp) to next corner, dc in next sc, 3 dc in center sc at corner, dc in next sp; rep from * around. Join to top of ch-3. Ch 1, turn.

Rnd 3 (WS): Sc in each sc around, working 3 sc in center dc at corners. Join to first sc. Change to smaller hook. Ch 3, turn.
