Hi. *Sniff* Who are you? My name's Ink, of Ink's
Lake, Ink's Dam and Ink's Lake National Park just outside of Llano,
Texas. I've been living with StarMaiden and Lady Kitty for a year now.
Before that I lived with StarMaiden's dad, Lady Kitty's Grandpa. One
summer when Lady Kitty was visiting Grandpa, they decided that Grandpa
needed a cat to keep him company. They came out to visit a lady who
had a boxful of wild cat kittens she was giving away. Grandpa picked
me out of all the kittens. *purr* Turning quiet...lifting a little
black paw and licking it thoughtfully...bright eyes half closed...
shaking out a little, little paw slowly moving back to the floor...
Grandpa and I lived in a nice little house at the edge of town. There
were all kinds of wild animals all around. Sometimes deer would wander
into our front yard. I spent a lot of time outside playing, but I was
sad, because I had to play all alone. There weren't any other cats for
me to play with. Grandpa was good to me, he even made me my own
hamburger when he cooked. Everytime he bought milk, he would let
me have the milk pull ring as a toy. I love milk pull rings! They keep
getting stuck up under the couch with the rubberbands I steal, that
makes me mad. But StarMaiden always gives them back to me when she
vacuums.
Once, when I was out playing in a field, I found a little baby
bunny. It was so cute that I decided to bring it home. Grandpa wouldn't
let me bring it inside. But I found a corner on the front porch
surrounded by pots of plants where the baby bunny fit. When the baby
bunny fell asleep, I ran inside the house and ate as fast as I could
then went right back out. That bunny was so much fun to play with!
I picked it up by the scruff of the neck and carried it around with me.
Every so often I would take my bunny into the front yard and let it hop
around and eat, and I would play with it. I never hurt it, it was my
friend, my toy. That was fun, I hadn't had anyone else to play with in
a long time. I had the bunny a few days, then one day while Grandpa
was feeding me, the bunny left and never came back.
Then Grandpa got sick. He was sick a long time. Every
day he left and went somewhere, he would be gone a long time, then
when he got home he was even sicker. One day he went away and never
came back. Grandpa's neighbors were nice and fed me. StarMaiden's
sister came to the house and left food for me outside a few times too.
Then she took me to her house. Later, Lady Kitty and StarMaiden came
back and got me. I was so scared and hungry. They took me back to my
house for a while. We found a kitten hanging around outside. He was
pretty and sweet. His name is Paper, well, Lord Paper Bagg is his
whole name, but everyone calls him Paper. I think he had been eating
the food that StarMaiden's sister had left for me. He is all creamy
white with a gray
mask and paws and tail. His eyes were the prettiest blue. He looked
like he hadn't eaten very well or been inside for a while. But he
acted like a house cat. When they called 'Here, kitty, kitty kitty.'
He would come! Silly kitten! They brought him inside and let him stay.
We liked each other right off. And I was so happy to have someone to
play with! Wow, that was such fun! StarMaiden and Little Kitty kept
going through all of Grandpa's things and throwing things away, they
even took stuff home with them! All I could think was how angry
Grandpa would be when he came back. But he never did. Finally,
StarMaiden and Lady Kitty took Paper and I home with them. Would you
believe that there were already 3 other cats, a dog and two rabbits
there? I remembered some of them from a time I had visited with
StarMaiden before. The only one who really liked me then was Kitty,
the dog. She's nice to me. Spotting Paper across the room, getting
back up...wiggling my butt...and *shooting* across the room. Chasing
Paper as he runs from me up the stairs... 'Bye! We'll talk more
later!
