(above) Migrations of family lines for Churchill and for Attaway
I'm Stephen Churchill and although I live in North Carolina, my roots like many Americans range broadly across North America. My ancestors have come from England, Wales, Ireland, Holland and in the distance past, France. I even seem to have one Native American ancestor. During the last 400 years my ancestors have migrated to and lived in Massachusetts, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Maine, Alabama, Florida and New York. The Churchills, Attaways, Edwards', Crouses', etc. seem to stay in one place no longer than a generation or two. I myself was born in New York, but migrated to North Carolina a number of years ago. My brother migrated "back" to Maine. Like many Americans, we've been on the move.
This home page is intended to generate discussion among genealogists,
both amateur and professional, who may be researching the Churchill family and related
lines. Churchill as discussed here is that family in America for which the progenitor is
John Churchill who first appeared at Plymouth Colony in 1643 and married Hannah Pontus.
The amateur and largely unproved research presented here has been done by me, a 12th
generation descendant of John & Hannah. Some of the research is based on limited
primary resources such as US Census images, grave markers and funeral registers.
Much of the rest is based on secondary resources, significant among which include the book
'Churchill Family in America', the 'Ancestry Files' and 'International Genealogical Index'
of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and a variety of published works
focusing on Plymouth, New England and the Mayflower. I've been at this detective story for
about 30 years, with most of my serious work since 1994 (when I first began using the
