In 1825, Archibald Wadsworth acquired the property in Pike County, Georgia. The Wadsworth-Clayton Family Cemetery is located in Lamar County. It rests on a beautiful knoll beside a pond nor far from where the old home-place used to stand. All that's left of the house is the chimney, standing majestically as it did when it was built.
The cemetery lies under huge oak trees up on a hill over looking what was once a great plantation that was passed down through the Wadsworth family until around 1898 when it was sold.
During the Civil War in September of 1863, a train loaded with supplies heading for the battle of Atlanta collided with a train loaded with wounded soldiers heading for the Confederate Hospital near Milner and Barnesville. Twenty of the solders died and were buried in the family cemetery. Also, many slaves were buried on the outskirt of the cemetery.
During World War II Mr. J. D. Moore and his wife walked up to the cemetery and counted more than one hundred forty graves.
