I'm researching Abraham W. Powell line that came out of Lumpkin County GA (early 1830s) into Gilmer, GA (1850 census) and then into Walker and surrounding counties of Alabama (1855 & upward). A recent clue, namely a couple of letters written in 1935 by Judge Powell of Walker County Alabama mention a line that I think may be mine. I have not yet validated the letters but am following the clues from the letters because earlier research points in the same direction. Mentioned is Abe Powell who had two brothers. One was Pleasant Thomas Powell and the other was Joshuo (Joshua) Powell. Judge Powell stated he met Joshua Powell when he was a small child probably about 1884 and that Joshua lived in Mississippi at one time. I received an e-mail message that stated Joshua may have died in Lawrence County, TN. I need to determine if this is the same Joshua who married Dicey Lowery about 1839 in Lumpkin, GA. Also mentioned was Jennie Powell, the mother of Pleasant Thomas Powell, Abe Powell and Joshua Powell. Her husband may have been John Powell (both last names were Powell) and they might have been cousins. Pleasant Thomas Powell line (Winnie Woods Powell?) include: John Byrd Powell & George Washington Powell. Mrs. E. Bailey researcher on that line. I am trying to prove that Abraham W. Powell may have married Nancy Mulkey while he was traveling preacher. Abraham was married twice.
