Hi, everyone! Soose here! Did you know that some sooses have pets? Well, some of us do! I, for one, have SEVEN--3 cats, and 4 dogs! I have taken some pictures of The "Gang", and I thought that you would enjoy seeing some "soose pets". Each pet has a story to tell. So, without further ado, please meet:
Tom and Jerry are now a little over 5 years old. They came to live with me when they were only 6 weeks old. I got them from a "cat care clinic", where their mother had been taken to be destroyed. Why? Because she was pregnant with them and their siblings.
I remember hearing of the situation, when I went to pick them out (they were only 2 days old at that time). The clinic told the individual that they did NOT destroy healthy animals, just because they were pregnant. Needless to say "Momma" was not destroyed. She had become the clinic's "mascot" up until the time she was adopted by someone.
Today, the "Boys" are healthy, happy, and are strictly indoor cats. No outside wandering for them! Tom is rather quiet and to himself, whereas Jerry is a big, lovable lummox, and is ALWAYS at the heart of any trouble. They are truly "soose cats"!
As of this writing (April, 2002), Tom and Jerry are a little over 10 years old and just as feisty as ever. As usual, Jerry is still the one who gets into trouble the most while Tom is a bit more "regal".
Now, continue on down, and meet Mable!
Mable also came to live with us when she was quite young. Her life began on the roof of a house--that was where she was born! And when she was brought to the Vet's, she was considered to be quite "wild"--literally! Before any thought of giving her away to someone could occur, the staff at the pet hospital had to tame her.
Then, one day while my parents were visiting the pet hospital for a completely different reason, they had their first encounter with Mable. While standing in line at the reception area, my father kept hearing this VERY annoyed, attention-getting "meow". He looked down at a cage that was sitting on the floor next to the reception counter. There, from inside the cage, hanging upside-down from the "ceiling" of the cage, was Mable. To hear Dad tell it, I guess that Mable was furious at being locked up in a cage, and was letting the world know of her discontentment.
After they left the pet hospital (without Mable), Dad asked Mom if she wanted another cat. Mom, giving that all too familiar "mom" look of hers, asked him if HE wanted another cat. Shortly, afterwards, they returned to the pet hospital, collected Mable, brought her home, and she's been here ever since.
Mable is approximately 3 to 4 years old now, and like Tom and Jerry, is strictly an indoor cat. In fact, she shows NO desire to even go outside! Of course, being a "woman" she dominates the "Boys". She doesn't take ANY "guff" from those two! And she is quite opinionated, too! A VERY vocal cat!
Mable is almost 10 years old now. She has never really been the same since Mom and Dad died in 1998. The once dominating cat is now being dominated by the "Boys". Occasionally, she will come out of her shell and be the old Mable I once knew. But, most of the time, the "new" Mable stays in one room all the time. Perhaps one day she will dominate again.
