SHORT HISTORY OF METALLICA

Metallica formed in 1982. Their lineup was James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Dave Mustaine and Cliff Burton. John Zasulla or Johnny Z heard their demo tape and wanted them to sign for a new Label he was doing called MEGA FORCE RECORDS. When they arrived with Johnny Z, they decided to dump their guitar player Dave Mustaine cuz of personal problems. They already had their sight on a new guitar player named Kirk Hammet from a band called Exodus. Their debut album was called "KILL EMī ALL". After a little touring, they began writing their next album "RIDE THE LIGHTNING". On March of 1985, the album peeked at 100 in BillBoards despite the lack of support and radio play. They hired new management and signed with a new label called ELEKTRA RECORDS. They began recording their 3rd album "MASTER OF PUPPETS" in Denmark. During that time they opened for OZZY OSBOURNE in the OZZY TOUR. After the Ozzy Tour, they toured in Europe. During that time, on September 26 1986, the bus that they were traveling in, skided on ice and caused an accident and their bass player Cliff Burton died instantly. For a while Metallica was on the down side but, they knew that thatīs not what Cliff would have wanted so they started looking for a new bass player. They werenīt looking for a "Cliff Part 2", just someone who could play good enough. They tried lotīs of guys, lotīs whome sucked, but one day a kid named Jason Newsted walked in and the other band members he had something different in him. Immediately he was hired as the new bass player for Metallica. They began recording their 4th album "...And Justice For All" which became Metallicaīs first top ten hit and spoted their first MUSIC VIDEO "ONE". The album was nominated for a Grammy (1989) and Metallica was also invited to play at the Awards thus making them the first Heavy Metal Band to play in the Grammy Awards. But, they lost to what people say "Was not fair", "Metallica deserved it more", to Jethro Tull. After a nine month break, they started to record on their next album "Metallica:Black Album" which is Metallicaīs best album to date. Produced aslo for the first time by Bob Rock. After the release of the album it went quickly #1 on the BillBoard charts. They were invited back to the Grammy Awards in 1992 and this time they won. They made a 5 year tour of the Black album and after 5 years of Metallica without a new record, they recorded the 6th studio album called "LOAD" which the songs are not like what Metallica use to be. Itīs still good but not the good old Metallica. They actually wrote 27 songs and thought of releasing "LOAD" as a 2CD album, but instead they decided a year and half later to release the other 13 remaining songs for what would be their 7th studio record called "RELOAD"
