ANDREWS Tegler Born: 1864 in Huntsville, Randolph County Missouri, USA Married: 1879 in Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Huntsville, Missouri, USA Death: Jun. 12, 1935 in Wilmette, Cook County Illinois, USA Kate E. Andrew's mother was from Kentucky, and her father was from Tennessee - their exact given names are unknown. Kate was either born in Macon or Huntsville, Mo and of part-Cherokee heritage. A story passed down through family was: When her ancestors came west via wagon train they were attacked by the Indians and everyone was killed except our ancestor who was a male infant. For some unknown reason, Indians took the baby boy and raised him as their own. When he was 18 yrs. old, he wanted to leave and return to the white people but found that he was unhappy in the white man's world. He returned to the Cherokees, married the chief's daughter and it is told he later became chief of the tribe himself. Apparently, he fathered children and Kate was either one of those, or once removed. Kate married John E. Tegler at age 14 on May 14, 1879 at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Huntsville, Mo. They lived most of their lives in Sedalia MO and raised 6 children: Fred, John, Edward, Norman, Clarence and Florence.
