" " ...Emma......Da.....2 .............. " ... " Filed in the Lackawanna County Courthouse in Scranton, PA. is the naturalization papers filed by Thomas Soulsby. It states he arrived in the port of New York on the 6th day of October, 1880. Thomas filed for US Citizenship on the 29th of September, 1884. The 1900 Scranton City directory shows Emma M., Thomas, and Thomas jr. Soulsby residing at 1529 Meylert Ave. Scranton, PA. Thomas and Thomas jr. are listed as miners. December 30, 1911, at the age of 67, Thomas was a miner at the Von Storch Colliery. His leg and arm was fractured by a fall of roof on gangway road while blasting down roof. (proof was found in the 1911 mining reports of Pennsylvania) Taken from The Scranton Times:dated March 29, 1930. Obituaries. The funeral of Thomas Soulsby, who died at the home of his daughter, Mr. William Tait, Philadelphia, Thursday, will be from Williams Funeral Home, 715 Electric Street... Burial, Forest Hill Cemetery. Mr. Soulsby, was formerly of this city, where he located in 1882 following his arrival in America from Durham, England, where he was born. He leaves the following daughters: Mrs. Margaret Schoonover, this city; Mrs. William Tait, Philadelphia; Miss Emma, Scranton; Mrs. George Merkle, Dunmore; sons: Thomas Jr., Robert, and Matthew, all of Scranton. Story has it that Robert Soulsby celebrated his second birthday aboard ship on the family journey to America. This would put the family traveling in 1882.
