NAME:

NINE MILLS

(Extra photos added 18/6/04) Description updated 7 April 2006

GAUGE: N Gauge 9mm

STOCK: Ready to run, modified ready to run and kit built.

PROTOTYPE: See description for full details.

DESCRIPTION: It is an N gauge layout built to 9mm gauge and features handbuilt points in the main viewing area, although for ease of maintenance, it is planned to replace these with proprietry units at some stage in the future.(*)

A main line passing a ficticious MPD located in the Banbury, Oxfordshire area which gives members the excuse to run Midland, Western and BR Standard rolling stock as well as Inter-Regional trains from the Southern and Eastern regions. In other words, something for everyone.

The period of this layout is depicted as being in the early post-nationalisation era when rolling stock of the "Big Four" (LMS, GWR, SR and LNER) could be seen alongside the new BR colour schemes.

The layout features a twin track mainline with passing loops on both the up and down lines. An 18 road fiddle yard, capable of holding over 40 different trains ensures that there is plenty of variety for the viewer. Additionally, there is plenty of movement to be seen in the engine shed and diesel depot areas. The alterations to the layout were completed in time for Brighton Model World 2006, (as seen above) although much scenic work remained to be completed. The layout performed extemely well, but it was felt that some fine tuning was required, and therefore, apraising the situation following its second recent outing it was decided to re-lay the engine shed area with proprietry pointwork (see above (*)). This work is proceeding at a good pace and should not affect any plans for exhibiting in the near future.

SIZE: Space including work area and barriers 24' x 12' (Layout 20' x 8').

VIEWING: From the front only.

EXPENSES: Hire of van plus petrol and parking.

INSURANCE VALUE:£5000

AVAILABLE FOR EXHIBITIONS: YES.
