Hello there! I am your typical middle-aged Detroit automotive engineer, an old "motor man". My dog said that a long time ago I was a "boy engineer", which is true. There I am, on the right, a couple of years before they came out with color film.
No technical stuff here, just a couple of things I think are amusing, and a few links I have enjoyed.
Palindromes. Palindromes are words or phrases that read the same forward or backward, disregarding punctuation and spacing. For some reason, they have fascinated me since I was a kid. I have tried to make some up, without great success, and have included them here, along with some well-known better ones, and links to more. A Toyota!
Mixed Metaphors. W. C. Fields once said "We’ve got to take the bull by the tail . . . ", confusing "taking the bull by the horns" and "got a tiger by the tail". I used to work for a guy who did this a lot, and I have a list of some of his noteworthy ones.
Dumb Meeting Statements. Since I "don’t do parts" any more, but instead try to coordinate activities between different engineering groups involved in large programs, I go to a lot of meetings. Some are pretty important, many but not all, are relevant, and a lot of them get pretty dull.
I have discovered that people say some fairly odd things in meetings, and for the most part, the odd statements just sail over most people’s heads. But I have started paying attention, and writing them down. I have built up quite a collection. Check them out.
Links. Here is a modest collection of links I have enjoyed for various reasons, with brief descriptions.
