Samuel Gonda was born June 8, 1880 in Tokaj, Zemplen
Hungary. This has been proven on a Church Register from Hungary found by me (on file).
Parents of
Samuel Gonda - George Gonda and Rebekka Eles.
I show a Rebekka Eles being born to Istvan Eles and Maria Szabo on September 7,1820 in
Tarcal.
Samuel Gonda died October 23, 1915 in Youngstown, Ohio at
the age of 36. He was a Tailor in Hungary and here
in the USA he was a Mill Worker. He died as a result of falling into a hot vat in the mill
that he worked at. No one knows how this terrible accident happened. Samuel is buried at
Belmont Cemetery in Youngstown, Ohio. Buried: October 25,1915 Section
A, Range 38, Grave 17. (picture to be added later)
Samuel was NOT naturalized. He died before he could be
granted his citizenship. His Declaration of Intention is # 1523
he filed in Youngstown, Ohio.
Sophia Szegedi was born December 25, 1879 Supposedly in Bodrogkeresztu'r Hungary.
This fact has not been proven by me as of yet. Still looking.
Parents of Sophia Szegedi - John Szegedi and Sophia Olah. Sophia Szegedi Gonda Died Sept.
17, 1974. Cleveland, Ohio. She died of complications of old age. Sophia is buried at
Highland Park Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio.
I do have evidence that the family names I have been researching have lived in and have
had children in: The 1820's in Tarcal then moved to Tokaj in late 1879 early 1880. The
Bodrogkeresztur fact is there as well as I have found a Sister Erzsebet Szegedi of my
G-Grandmother born there June 19, 1895
It appears that the Gonda and Szegedi families were prolific. They seem to have married
into allot of surnames as well. I always seem to see the following names affiliated with
them when I start finding them on the films. They are usually Godparents to one another's
children and so on. I am sure they are related, those details are still being worked on by
me at the present time.
