ALABAMA, FLORIDA, GEORGIA, NORTH CAROLINA and VIRGINIA lkvarnum@ucdavis.edu Lisa Varnum - My father, Dan Varnum, is descendent of a John Varnum born in either Alabama or Virginia, approximately 1849. John Varnum was a Civil War veteran. One of his great newhpews, Stanely Varnum, has done a great deal of research also on this specific line. Varnum1@aol.com Randy Varnum - I am one of the Varnum's that originated from North Carolina. I have a large GED file of our Varnum Family from the South (Florida, Alabama, and Georgia). Do you know any contacts that would know of Roland Varnum from N.C. and of his ancestry. DVarnum@aol.com Dexter Varnum My Varnum grandparents owned a good deal of land in Early County, Georgia. Many Varnums are buried in Early County, Georgia and Houston County, Alabama (just across the Chattahoochee River.) My grandparents were Archibald Sylveter Varnum and Delia Varnum. Archibald was a son of William (Bill) Varnum who is buried in the Ramah (not sure about the meaning of the name) family cemetary in Alabama, near the Georgia line. Another old family cemetary is located in rural Early County, Georgia. Both sides of my family -- Varnum and Glass -- dominate both graveyards. The Varnum family "homeplace'" burned in the early 1960s. It was very nice and large surrounded by cotton land. My grandmother hired sharecroppers for the land after my grandfather became blind. IOWA , MISSOURI, WYOMING, TEXAS, OHIO, TENNESSEE, GEORGIA, NEW JERSEY Agnes Varnum My grandfather, Gordon Varnum of New Jersey, was born in the Midwest, either Iowa or Missouri. His father whom I'm not sure of his name, had a farm in Iowa. Beyond that my grandfather knows that his ancesters had been in America for a while before, we are related to the General. My grandfather's mother was Norweigen. Other Varnum's in our family live in Georgia, Texas, Wyoming, Ohio, and Tennessee. Agnes Varnum (me) 07/24/75-I moved from New Jersey to Hawaii. My mother Cindy Varnum 09/20/56-New Jersey, her sister Nancy Varnum 10/22/53-Texas, her brother Matt Varnum-he's the youngest about 35-37-Georgia, my grandfather Gordon Varnum-born in April or May over 70 years ago-New Jersey. Gordon has 2 brothers and a sister - Clark who lives in Wyoming and is the oldest, Gloria who is after my grandfather is in Ohio and Larry who is the youngest and lives in Tennessee. Larry has two sons, Craig and Grant, they would be in their late twenties-early thirties now, I'm not sure if Clark has any children, he has been remarried, and Gloria has two daughters.

MASSACHUSETTS Descendant Possibilities for George and Hannah Varnum: Loanne and Brent Van Voorhis jvanvoor@mail.tds.net I got the information from on Hannah from my grandmother (Lois Strong and my aunt Eleanor Ludwick). I have no idea where they got it. When I started in geanology, they had done a lot of research and I just entered what they had and went on. My aunt was very involved in DAR and some of her information came from there. She also got a lot of information from some old diaries that were kept by Alfred Cowles and his ancestors. I only had the name Hannah with the last initial V. And Olive Mae forewarded my your information from the New England Roots List. Olive Mae is convinced that our Hannah V and your Hannah Varnum are the same person. Varnum Geanealogies don't have a Sarah as a daughter of Samuel Varnum(b. in england around 1619 who came to Ipswich in 1635 with his parents and sister), BUT Samuel's wife's name was Sarah Langton daughter of Roger and Goodie langton of Ipswich, so a daughter named Sarah is a possibility. Now the only Nelson I have so far is a Lucy Nelson, who married Ezra Colburn, Samuel's daughter HannahVarnum and Ezra Colburn's son. He was also a member of the Union club and a director of various institutions. Elected in 1863 a trustee of The New York Life Insurance Co., he served until his death. His uprightness of character, genial disposition and cordial manners won for him the love and respect of all. His wife and several children survived him." bent.here@capital.net Frank Bennett Rufus Varnum was born Vermont about 1783. In the Warren County census of 1850 he was living in the town of Caldwell, N.Y. age 67, listed as a farmer. His wife Anna (Pratt) Varnum is listed in the same census age 68 from Rhode Island. Anna's father was also living with them in 1850, his name was Job Pratt from Rhode Island and was age 94 years old in 1850.It has been stated that Job Pratt lived to be 104 years old. I knowwere their farm was in Caldwell and have searched all the local cemeteriesfor these three people but have not been able to locate their grave sites. I strongly believe that they are buried in the Fuller cemetery which is about 1/4 mile from the farm. it is a very old cemetery and has many field stone grave markers, which was common practice when the family didn't have enoughmoney for a headstone.I don't know who Rufus and Anna's children were but,the 1855 census shows two grandchildren living with them Merit Varnum age 11and Louisa Varnum age 9 from Renselair. My mother is Ethel (Pratt) Bennett. We tie into Job Pratt's line which I have been able to trace back to Phineas Pratt born 1592, died April 19, 1680. He married Mary Priest, she was the daughter of Degory Priest who came to this country on the Mayflower. His name is on the shipping manifest. I also list a Rachell Varnum born about 1831 died July 16, 1887. She is buried at the Lamb Hill cemetery, East Schroon River Road, Warrensburg, N.Y. with her husband Daniel Johnson Pratt born Feb. 23, 1823, died Sept. 10, 1896. I am related to Daniel J. Pratt. The Varnum family still lives in the old farm house that Rufus had years ago. There are two men that I know of from that family that are probably in their 40's I know one just retired out of the Military.
