How to make the Gospel real in our lives.

"To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne." Rev 3:21

How did Jesus overcome?

Born of Spirit - Word of God - Indwelling Spirit - Prayer - Resisting Temptation

He Was Born of Spirit

Christ had a Divine nature - We can too

Col 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. (KJV)

2 Pet 1:4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises:
that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having
escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. (KJV)

Jesus was born of the Spirit - So should we

John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born
of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

1 John 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the
victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. (KJV)

Eze 18:30 Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according
to his ways, saith the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from
all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin. (KJV)
Ezek 18:31 Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have
transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why
will ye die, O house of Israel? (KJV)

Acts 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted
out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of
          the Lord; (KJV)

Ezek 36:25 Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean:
from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse
           you. (KJV)
Ezek 36:26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put
within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh,
and I will give you an heart of flesh. (KJV)
Ezek 36:27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my
statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. (KJV)
Ezek 36:29 I will also save you from all your uncleannesses: and I will call
for the corn, and will increase it, and lay no famine upon you.

Jesus Died To Self - So should we

Before we can be reborn we must die to self.

Rom 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ
were baptized into his death? (KJV)
Rom 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as
Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so
we also should walk in newness of life. (KJV)
Rom 6:5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we
shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: (KJV)
Rom 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of
sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
Rom 6:7 For he that is dead is freed from sin. (KJV)
Rom 6:8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with
        him: (KJV)
Rom 6:12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey
it in the lusts thereof. (KJV)
Rom 6:13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto
sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the
dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
Rom 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the
         law, but under grace. (KJV)

Rom 8:10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the
Spirit is life because of righteousness. (KJV)
Rom 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in
you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your
mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. (KJV)

Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye
present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God,
which is your reasonable service. (KJV)
Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the
renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and
acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (KJV)

Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but
Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I
live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself
         for me. (KJV)

Phil 3:8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of
the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the
loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win
         Christ, (KJV)
Phil 3:9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of
the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the
righteousness which is of God by faith: (KJV)
Phil 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the
          fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;
Phil 3:11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.
Phil 3:12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect:
but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am
          apprehended of Christ Jesus. (KJV)

How are we to be born of the Spirit ?

1 Pet 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by
the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. (KJV)

Psa 33:6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of
them by the breath of his mouth. (KJV)

Heb 6:18 That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to
lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to

Rom 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Gen 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. (KJV)

2 Cor 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath
shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the
glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. (KJV)

Faith is taking God at His Word and living it

Jesus overcame tempatation thru God's Word.

Heb 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of
         things not seen. (KJV)
Heb 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word
of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which
         do appear. (KJV)

Rom 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith:
as it is written, The just shall live by faith. (KJV)

Matt 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread
alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above

John 17:21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in

           as he walked. (KJV)

Prayer

What else did Jesus do - Prayer

Heb 5:7 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and
supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to
save him from death, and was heard in that he feared; (KJV)

Matt 21:22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye
           shall receive. (KJV)

Luke 6:12 And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain
to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. (KJV)

          watch unto prayer. (KJV)

Father may be glorified in the Son. (KJV)
John 14:14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. (KJV)

Matt 7:11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your
children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give
good things to them that ask him? (KJV)

John 16:23 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto
you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it
           you. (KJV)
John 16:24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall
receive, that your joy may be full. (KJV)

Matt 26:41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit
indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. (KJV)

Why then don't I always overcome when I pray ?

James 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume
          it upon your lusts. (KJV)
James 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of

mourning, and your joy to heaviness. (KJV)
James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

Resisting Temptation

Jesus also resisted temptation - a battle

2 Tim 4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept
          the faith: (KJV)

2 Cor 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through
God to the pulling down of strong holds;) (KJV)
2 Cor 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth
itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity
every thought to the obedience of Christ; (KJV)

Heb 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of
witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so
easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set
         before us, (KJV)
Heb 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the
joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame,
and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. (KJV)

Heb 12:4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin. (KJV)

1 Cor 9:25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all
things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an
           incorruptible. (KJV)
1 Cor 9:26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that
           beateth the air: (KJV)
1 Cor 9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that
by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a
           castaway. (KJV)

1 Pet 4:1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm
yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in
the flesh hath ceased from sin; (KJV)

Heb 2:18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to
succour them that are tempted. (KJV)

Heb 5:7 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and
supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to
save him from death, and was heard in that he feared; (KJV)
Heb 5:8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he
        suffered; (KJV)
Heb 5:9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto
all them that obey him; (KJV)

What is this battle against : SELF

John 5:30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my
judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of
the Father which hath sent me. (KJV)

At which point can we stop the fight and say we have attained savlation ?

Matt 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

1 Pet 1:5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready
to be revealed in the last time. (KJV)

Heb 9:28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them
that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto
         salvation. (KJV)

Rev 2:10 Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil
shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye
shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I
will give thee a crown of life. (KJV)

What about once saved always saved ?

Eze 18:24 But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and
committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations
that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that
he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath
trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.

Matt 18:23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king,
which would take account of his servants. (KJV)
