Comet and Orbit

Two days after our granddaughter moved into her Ranchwood apartment here in Fresno, her Siamese cat gave birth to five little kittens. She was very excited, and we all watched them grow into curious, little darlings. It was not long until the five were just to much for her apartment, and When our family gathered to celebrate Harvey's birthday in September of 1999, Karen brought a box with her, that held the bright-eyed kittens. She told grandpa he could have the first pick! What could he say? Of course we would make a home for the one that hopped onto him, and crawled onto his shoulder. That evening, the kitten followed Harvey around everywhere he went. I laughed, and told him he had a "Comet Cursor". The name seemed right. The next day, when we realized how lonely Comet was, we called to see if we could adopt one of his brothers too. The second Kitten was much less confident, and walked around to check things out, hissing a little, and fluffing out his tail. We decided that Orbit would be a good companion name for Comet. They have made themselves so much at home, it is as if they are accepting us living with them. I did not want to deal with a litter box, and placed a plastic hospital basin into the toilet. At first I filled it with litter, and after they were accustomed to it, I removed the litter, and cut a hole in the bottom, small enough so they would not try to crawl through it. Sure enough they took to the idea. When they grew larger I cut the hole bigger, and it works well.

Harvey made a "cat pole", out of a length of PVC sewer pipe, plywood, and rug scraps. They spent many happy hours chasing each other through the pipe, and sitting on the top deck where they can see what is going on in the kitchen. We pet them when they sit on the bathroom scale, so now it is no problem to keep up with their weight. They seem to be settling down at about twelve and a half pounds. With that much weight, and clipped claws, they do not get up on the draperies, or mantle any more. As you can see from the pictures they are genuine sleepy heads. Harvey is afraid to let them out, but they do need the open space, and will rush in when the door is opened.

Thank you Comet and Orbit for a lot of enjoyment, We would miss you if you were not here.
