In summer 1998 I embarked on a new chapter in my life -
being owned by cats. Raleigh came into my life at that time. I knew very little about
caring for a cat but my friend Bruce, my brother Don and my brother and sister-in-law Mike
and Susan all gave me lots of advice and moral support. Raleigh and I became great
friends. A few times I thought about getting another cat as a companion for Raleigh during
the long days I'm gone at work, but finally acted on it in spring 2001 when I was adopted
by Coco, a funny little three year old from the Humane Society. I can't say that they're
best friends and they do have spats but they coexist, and provide some companionship for
one another. They're pretty much like human siblings: "Mom, she's looking at me -
make her stop!" or "Mom, make her stay over there!" Here are some thumbnails of the two of them together. Click any thumbnail to see a larger version of the photo. The cartoon on the right is compliments of Wallaby, a member of the About.com Cats forum which I frequent. I think she did a great job capturing their personalities.

Wallaby's work: Wallaby from
the About.com Cats forum gets a kick out of Raleigh's and Coco's unique personalities and
likes to illustrate them. The links below are great and I encourage you to check them out: Adventures of Coco and Raleigh: A photo cartoon of the girls "She's Looking at Me!" montage: Humorous telling of a daily scene in our house. Wallaby's Home Page: Check out her other work, including pictures of other forum cats (her shot of Canbz's Mini-me laughing at FB's silly haircut is one of my favorites) |
I put this at the bottom since the load time is long - here's a little scene that played out on my screen porch recently (animation) | The picture above is doctored - I got the "dancing bear" pics of Raleigh and Coco separately, then inserted Raleigh into Coco's picture. I love this one! |
