Batik Eggs

Materials:

Instructions:

  1. First, blow as many eggs as you intend to use. (See "Blowing Eggs") These eggs should be completely dry.
  2. Using either the crayons or the rubber cement, draw patterns onto the egg. These can be squiggles, drawings, whatever. However, keep in mind that these drawings will be white when the egg is done, the crayons are only to keep the dye off of that portion of the egg. (See figure 1)

  3. Figure 1

  4. Mix up the egg dyes or food colorings as directed on the package.
  5. Once the drawing is complete and the rubber cement is dry, set the egg into the dish of coloring. If the bowl is small enough that the entire egg is not covered, use a spoon to carefully turn the egg over so that it is covered thoroughly on all sides. However, be careful not to fill the container too full. It should only be three-quarters of the way full or it will spill when the egg is put in it.
  6. After a few minutes, or when the egg is the color that you desire, carefully remove it from the dye with a spoon and set it on a piece of paper towel to dry overnight. ENJOY!!!
