Family Reunion
August 2001

Introduction

Jacob and Martha Casanova were the first husband and wife from our branch of the family to immigrate to the United States (1847).

The 2001 family reunion was held on the first Saturday in August. During August 2001, like in so many previous years, the reunion was hosted by Jo Ann. Many, many family members contributed food, drinks, time, conversation, fun, memories, etc. Thanks to everyone. It was great.

All name listings are from left to right as you view the photo, unless otherwise noted.

Please be patient; these photos take about four minutes to come up over a phone line connection.

Posing for this photo at dinner Friday night were Brooke (Melva's granddaughter), Homer, Adele, Jo Ann, Woody, Melva (peeking through), Linda, Gabrielle (Linda's granddaughter), and Ginger.

Another view of Friday night dinner showing Murphy, Jo Ann, Ginger, Chuck, Michelle, Linda holding Gabrielle, and Adele (back of her head showing).

The reunion was held at the Lions Club. Left photo: Jo Ann and Ginger at the podium. Ginger and her sister Dorothy had done significant genealogy research during the previous year, including finding the ship that brought the original family members to the United States in 1847. Ginger presented their significant findings to the reunion attendees because Dorothy and her family were ill and could not attend.  Right photo: sisters Ruth and Jo Ann.

Left photo: Murphy and Joel. Right photo: Leona, Junior, and Mona. Mona was the oldest person attending the reunion (almost 89 years old).

Posing during lunch were: Judy, Kristen, Robert, and Bonnie (in back of Kristen).

Ginger was the emcee for the White Elephant game. We picked numbers. Starting with lowest number, people got to choose the wrapped gift they wanted, and they opened it. The next number got to take any opened present or pick a wrapped one. The person they took it from got to take any opened present or pick a wrapped one. Once a present has had three owners, it was no longer available for taking (except for the largest number who got to pick anything, after all that person had to wait through many other people).

And more descendents, etc., of Edith Ann and Walter.

These folks were descendents, etc., of Irene and Charles. Irene is partially hidden in the center back row.

Jacob and Martha, and many of their descendents, were laid to rest in a local cemetery. Right after the reunion, several vehicle loads of reunion attendees convoyed to the cemetery to look around.

Left photo: Robert and Ginger discussed family history. Right photo: Irene, Jo Ann, and Gordon all looked around the cemetery.

Chatting were David, Melva, Gabrielle (in stroller), and Linda (Gabrielle's grandmother).

It was a hot, sunny day. So we grabbed some shade and some cold drinks. From front to back, left side: David, Irene, Adele, Judy, Robert, Bonnie, and Dorothy. From front to back, right side: Jo Ann, Ginger (hidden behind Jo Ann), and Gordon. Some of the folks were reading Murphy's family tree listing that he gave out at the reunion.

Gabrielle rested in her stroller.

We all posed for one final group photo in the cemetery. Front row sitting (left to right): Irene, Adele, Linda, Robert, David, and Dorothy. Back row standing (left to right): Homer, Gordon, Murphy, Melva, Ginger, Jo Ann, Bonnie, Kristen (David's granddaughter), and Brooke. Photo taken by Judy.
