Casanova and Rohner Families Come to America
List of Passengers Arrived from Foreign Ports
New Orleans, Louisiana, February 1847

The first Casanova and Rohner ancestors to arrive in the United States of America were documented herein in copies of two pages from the List of Passengers Arrived from Foreign Ports to the port of New Orleans, Louisiana, on February 22, 1847.

Jacob Casanova (b. circa 1797; d. circa 1847 of cholera in New Orleans, Louisiana), had at least three children in Switzerland. Jacob and three children left Europe during 1847 on the ship Queen Victoria which departed from Germany and arrived in New Orleans on February 22, 1847. According to the Queen Victoria passenger list, Jacob's age was 50 when he arrived in New Orleans. The passenger list also listed Jacob's children (and their ages) who came with him to New Orleans. They were: Mary (erroneously listed as Marri; called by her middle name, Katherine; listed as age 23 which is also an error: she was b. April 21, 1821, and d. June 1, 1882, according to her headstone), Jacob (called Jake; listed as age 10, so he was b. circa 1837; and d. September 10, 1899), and Martin (listed as age 9, so he was b. circa 1838). Two other persons were listed with Jacob Casanova on the passenger list. They were listed as Casanova for their last name, but that appears to be an error: their last names were Rohner. They were Anton (listed as age 27, so he was b. circa 1820) and Thomas (listed as age 17, so he was b. circa 1830). The person listed as Anton was Joseph Antoine Rohner who later married Mary Barbara Katherine Casanova. The person listed as Thomas was Thomas Rohner.

Thanks to Dorothy and Ginger for their relentless efforts in finding and copying these pages which provide significant documentation of family history.
