Robert Pleasant Ballew in Civil War
Missouri State Militia, Early 1860s

Robert Pleasant Ballew, husband of Nancy Jane Blain Ballew, was born June 17, 1838, in Alabama. This looks like he was wearing his Civil War uniform. He enrolled December 17, 1861, in Missouri State Militia. He contacted chronic hepatitis in line of duty. Prisoner of war records show him captured at Neosho, Missouri. Held about eight months and discharged there on May 24, 1864. A Second Lieutenant, Co. T-6th Regiment. That would place the date of this photo in the early 1860s.
