I know Who Her Grandfather Is But Who Are Her Parents?
Sarah Ricketts was born abt. 1802, and died in Libertyville IA on 5 May 1859. She married Peter Long on 3 March 1829. I have not been able to find her parents, but I do know that her maternal grandfather is John Roberts Sr. Evidence of her relationship to him is found in his will, and supported by the fact that in the 1850 census there was a John Roberts "a relative" in the Peter Long household. This John Roberts is believed to be an Uncle, because of his age. Sarah has been my most frustrating brick wall, because I have thought I made a breakthrough and time after time it would be a false lead. There are several Sarah Ricketts in Pennsylvania in that time period, but it seems that my Sarah must have been born under a rock.
Where did James Martin Wylie Come From, And Where Did He Go?
The date and location of James Martin Wylie's birth and death are unknown. He married Rosetta Yeager who was born in Indiana on 21 July 1852. The only child I have a record of, is my husband Ron's grandmother Minnie Byrl Wylie, born 1 Sept 1888, in Elk City MO. According to family stories James Martin Wylie left his family when his daughter Minnie was 12 years old, and was never heard from again. I have searched for leads for 15 years with no luck. I also cannot find Elk City MO and suspect that it may have been Elk City KS, instead.
Is She President Hayes' Cousin?
Cynthia Calista Hayes was born in Ohio on 23 September 1823. According to her granddaughter Minnie Wylie, she was Rutherford B. Hayes cousin. I have not been able to locate her parents, to try to make a connection. She was born in the same generation as the President and was born in the same state where he grew up. I researched President Hayes family in an effort to see if I could find leads through his family history, but it appears that his father was an only son in his family. I wonder if they could have been second cousins instead. I am interested in finding Cynthia's parents and siblings, and either prove or disprove the relationship.
Last But Not Least Of the Bricks
James Madison West was born 27 Aug 1825 in Guernsey County OH, and died in 1882 in Senecaville OH. He married Nancy N. Smith on 30 April 1846 in Guernsey County OH. The only child that I have a record of is George Beal West born 24 Dec 1850, in Guernsey County OH. This one is important to me to find since this is my husband's surname and I would like to find his immigrant ancestor, but in fifteen years I have been stuck at this brick wall.
Descendants of Peter Long
I am working on finding descendants of Peter Long who was born in Huntingdon County PA on 25 Oct 1800. He and his wife Sarah (Ricketts) Long had 10 children. One a twin named Jacob died when he was three years old. His twin brother Isaac died in battle for the Union in the Civil war at Iuka Mississippi. He was only 18 years old and never married. I have a record of a great many descendants of Abram, Samuel, David, and William the Civil War brothers featured on my page How About Them Longs. The other four children, I have very little information, and they are as follows:
Catherine Long born 14 Jan 1830, Huntingdon County PA. She married Peter Swayne.
John G. Long born 7 Oct 1833, Huntingdon County PA. He married Elizabeth Lightner 7 Sept 1858. John was found in the 1870 DeKalb County MO, census with his wife and 2 children Byron age 6, and Hayden age 4. One lead I had is that Byron supposedly went to TX.
Hannah M. Long born 23 Oct 1837, in Huntingdon County PA. She married James Mount in Jefferson County IA.
Henry Long born 27 Feb 1847 in Huntingdon County PA. I have nothing at all about Henry, and would appreciate any leads.
Descendants of John Long aka Juan Long
John Long was born July 1804 in Huntingdon County PA. He became a citizen of Mexico and changed his first name to Juan. A story about him can be found on the page titled How About Them Longs. I have two or three generations of his descendants but would be very interested in finding more.
Decendants of Johannes Lang / John Long
I have about 900 descendants of Johannes Lang which can be found in my record, on the Family Tree Maker site, but all of them are through his son Joseph. I would like to know more of his descendants through his other children, all born in Lancaster County PA.
