We decided to breed Fancy in January 1996 with a Silver Miniature Schnauzer name Buddy von Smith II, who also lives here in Bevil Oaks. Well, our Fancy gave birth March 17,1996 on St. Patricks Day, to 5 precious little puppies... 2 males and 3 females. This was Fancy's 1st litter so we were really surprised when Lynette and myself delivered 5 puppies. Schatzie was the smallest and quit breathing on us shortly after being born, so I performed rescue breathing. I got her to breath again Thank God. Shortly after giving birth we found out that Fancy couldn't nurse all of the puppies she didn't have enough milk, so for the next 5 weeks I fed the puppies with bottles filled with goatmilk. I would do it again to save them.
I didn't have their ears clipped, because like Fancy said I get to emotional. It took everything I had to let Dr. Ludwig do their tails. Spending every waking minute with the puppies got me very attached to the them, which is probaly why I ended up naming each puppy. There was Kathy Irland, Schatzie, Reba, St. Patrick, and Gramps. My family, wonderful as they are, never once complained that I was spending so much time with the puppies.
If I could have had it my way I would have kept all the puppies, but that was not possible because we couldn't afford to add another master bedroom to our house, or have all those pups in bed with us. hehehe. So I found each on a good home and at 6 weeks of age gave the puppies to their new owners. I am not ashamed to say I cried with each and every puppy I handed over. I still get phone calls from the owners to let me know how they are. As you can tell I kept Schatzie with her pretty little pink feet. She has been a constant joy to our family.
It took Fancy a while to get back to her old self again. We had her spayed, since one litter was all she could have and knowing myself I would have kept the next litter.
