HELP FOR THE FAINTING CHURCH
Scripture: (Luke 18:1 KJV) And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
Note: The scripture needs to be looked at carefully here. Jesus is telling us that if you pray you will not faint. I want to say that again this morning "IF YOU PRAY YOU WILL NOT FAINT".
A. So that should take care of all of your problems. "right"
a. This one scripture in your bibles should take care of all of your problems.
1. Notice it says "men ought always to pray, and not to faint.
a. This is telling us that we should be praying, let me say that again "we should be praying", let me say it one more time " we should be praying".
b. Prayer in our lives will keep us from fainting.
c. Notice it doesn’t say if we pray "Jesus Christ will deliver us from all trouble".
d. It says prayer will keep us from fainting.
2. The problem is a lot of times I Believe is we like wallowing in our self pity, we like feeling sorry for our selves, we don’t want to go through any problems
a. We want to find some easy way out, we don’t want to pray because that is work, we want an easy answer to our problems, but there isn’t any.
b. Prayer is just like anything else in life that we do, except it is dealing with eternal and spiritual issues in our lives. Something that is far more important than the things we work for in this world.
c. Jobs, education, popularity, acceptance, money, etc.
d. We toil and work and burn the midnight oil to gather all of these things into our lives.
e. But when it comes to things that have a eternal weight, our very souls and spirits in the balance we don’t want to work at it.
f. We want God or the church or a friend to give us an instant answer to all of our problems and we don’t want to do the very thing that will get us through all of the problems of this life and give us the strength to live a victorious life for God. P R A Y E R
B. The scripture says "men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
I. PRAYER IS THE GLUE, THE CHAINS THAT HOLD US TOGETHER, THE GAS OR ELECTRICITY THAT KEEPS US CHARGED TO GO, WE MUST DO IT, WE MUST HAVE IT TO KEEP FROM FAINTING AND FALLING IN THESE LAST DAYS.
A. Fainting is an indicator of your spiritual condition.
(Prov 24:10 KJV) If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.
a. Proverbs puts it pretty plain "if thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.
b. The church of Jesus Christ is full of weak Christians. As soon as some adversity comes we crumble. "O God woe is me" we don’t know what hit us.
c. What hit you is you are not praying.
d. Have you ever noticed Christians will talk there problem to death, they will tell this one and that one, and uncle Tom, ant Mary and yes even heathen Jim on the job, BUT WILL NOT PRAY, WILL NOT SPEND TIME ON THERE KNEES.
e. If Christians would spend as much time on there knees to God daily as they spend telling everyone about there problems they would not be fainting.
1. The bottom line is most of the believing Church today is weak, and when the trials and tribulations of this world come tumbling down on there heads they simply faint.
II. GOD GIVES STRENGTH TO THOSE THAT ASK.
a. there is a favorite scripture that we like to quote, sing and read as Christians all of the time in Isa 40:31.
(Isa 40:31 KJV) But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
b. We love to quote this and say it, but we don’t obey it.
c. They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.
d. We exhaust ourselves doing everything else but waiting on the Lord.
1. The of that chapter is very revealing to what is being said in Isa. 40:31.
(Isa 40:28 KJV) Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.
(Isa 40:29 KJV) He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
(Isa 40:30 KJV) Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
(Isa 40:31 KJV) But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
a. There it is "they that wait upon the Lord will not faint"
b. It is God that is the answer to your crisis, or problem, or tribulation, or tiredness, or weakness, or temptation.
c. It is not in man, the only thing man can do for you is share these scriptures with you.
YOU MUST WAIT ON THE LORD, NOT THE PASTOR , OR MOM, OR DAD, OR FRIEND, BUT YOU. "AND ONLY YOUR WAITING CAN KEEP YOU FROM FAINTING"
SAY THAT WITH ME "ONLY MY WAITING CAN KEEP ME FROM FAINTING"
SAY IT AGAIN "ONLY MY WAITING CAN KEEP ME FROM FAINTING"
d. From now on memorize that little jingle and the next time your having problems say it to yourself and then DO IT, WAIT ON THE LORD.
III. GOD ONLY HEARS THOSE THAT ARE PERSISTANT.
A. Waiting on the Lord means being persistent. God wants to see if your really serious, if you really want to have a relationship with Him or use him for a quick fix.
B. Waiting on the Lord requires some things.
1. A consistent prayer life continually in our lives.
a. A lot of Christians only want to pray when they get in trouble only when they get in a crisis or need something. "that is not waiting on the Lord"
2. A person that is going to trust the Lord with their lives. Totally trust, not just trying to use God to get what they want.
a. A lot of people will pray God help me do this or that or work this out that way or this.
b. But when you call upon God in your life and especially in those crisis times you have to trust God with your need.
c. You see we want to control God, our will must be done not Gods.
d. We must allow Gods will to be done in our lives and seek God in the midst of the problem to see His perfect plan. Then and only then will we benefit from what God is going to do.
3. Be persevering, willing to wait as long as it takes and keep knocking on Gods door.
(Luke 18:1 KJV) And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
(Luke 18:2 KJV) Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:
(Luke 18:3 KJV) And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.
(Luke 18:4 KJV) And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;
(Luke 18:5 KJV) Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.
(Luke 18:6 KJV) And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.
(Luke 18:7 KJV) And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
(Luke 18:8 KJV) I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?
a. Within this parable is the key to waiting upon the Lord, perseverance.
b. God promises that He will avenge us if we preserver in prayer. But why?
4. Within Luke 18:8 is the purpose of God within our lives "FAITH"
a. Will God find faith on the earth when he comes back?
IV. GOD WANTS TO PRODUCE FAITH IN OUR LIVES, FAITH IS TRUSTING IN A POWER OUTSIDE OF YOURSELF, SOMETHING YOU HAVE KNOW CONTROL OVER AND THAT POWER IS GOD.
A. God is trying to produce faith in us by teaching us it is not us but Him.
B. We must realize it is the faith in God that moves mountains, and we must build that faith within us to stand and not faint.
(2 Cor 4:7 KJV) But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
(2 Cor 4:8 KJV) We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;
(2 Cor 4:9 KJV) Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;
(2 Cor 4:10 KJV) Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.
(2 Cor 4:11 KJV) For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.
(2 Cor 4:12 KJV) So then death worketh in us, but life in you.
(2 Cor 4:13 KJV) We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;
(2 Cor 4:14 KJV) Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.
(2 Cor 4:15 KJV) For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.
(2 Cor 4:16 KJV) For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
(2 Cor 4:17 KJV) For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;
(2 Cor 4:18 KJV) While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
CLOSING:
1. WE MUST PRAY TO GOD EVERYDAY TO RECEIVE THE STRENGH TO LIVE AND WALK FOR GOD.
2. WE MUST PRAY TO HAVE A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD THAT ALLOWS US TO WALK IN THE FACE OF PROBLEMS AND CRISIS, AND PERSECUTION FROM THE WORLD AND SATAN IN THESE LAST DAYS.
3. REMEMBER WHAT THE SCRIPTURE SAID:
(Luke 18:1 KJV) And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
