KNOCKING ON WOOD OR WALKING ON GOLD
Opening:
Today people are so busy spending there time on wood instead of gold. They work hard to gain everything they can in this world, but it will all perish and rust, or burn, or be given to someone else. I want to suggest to you today that many people are being fooled by Satan in accepting wood instead of gold.Satin can paint wood gold, and shine it up, but its still wood. Christians today are accepting this counterfeit for gold, it is just wood, and wood won’t do.
Wood stands between God and man, and man can never reach God with wood only pure gold.
Scripture:
(Luke 13:24 KJV) Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.
(Luke 13:25 KJV) When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:
(Luke 13:26 KJV) Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.
Wood, Wood, Wood, Wood,
(Luke 13:27 KJV) But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.
A lot of Christians today think they can have a little sin in their lives and get by with it. Nobody knows and everything seems to be going ok. I’m doing something’s right. This is all wood, for God is not interested in wood only gold. And when man stands in front of God only gold will work not wood. Many so called Christians today are working iniquity in their lives by allowing that little sin to remain, but that little sin has build a gigantic wall between us and God.
(Luke 13:28 KJV) There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.
I. THE ARK OF GOD, THE ULTIMATE WOOD BARRIER.
(Gen 6:14 KJV) Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.
a. The ark was made of wood ordered by God.
b. It was going to be used to transport Noah and his family and the animals to the new world.
c. It was also going to be used for the final separation between sinful man and God.
(Gen 7:15 KJV) And they went in unto Noah into the ark, two and two of all flesh, wherein is the breath of life.
(Gen 7:16 KJV) And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the LORD shut him in.
d. The Lord shut the door. When God shuts a door no man can open it.
e. He was shutting a door of wood between man and God, between life and death.
(Gen 7:17 KJV) And the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lift up above the earth.
(Gen 7:18 KJV) And the waters prevailed, and were increased greatly upon the earth; and the ark went upon the face of the waters.
(Gen 7:23 KJV) And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark.
1. Everything died accept Noah and His family.
2. God had shut the door between sinful man and God.
3. As the waters came up man realized that what Noah was preaching was going to happen.
a. They had been to busy building with wood, instead of walking on gold.
b. As the waters came up, they tried to get Noah to open the door, they banged and banged with rocks, boards, and what ever they could get there hands on. They hung on the ark as long as they could but finally drowned in the water.
c. Noah couldn’t open the door because God shut it.
4. They thought they had all the time in the world, they weren’t interested in gold, only wood. They spent there days and time on this earth seeking after wood and making what they could build with there own hands pleasing to there own eyes.
(Mat 24:38 KJV) For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
(Mat 24:39 KJV) And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
a. Like a lot of even church people today, they were concentrating on wood instead of gold.
(Rev 3:18 KJV) I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
b. They thought they could get by with only doing a little of what God was saying.
c. But they were just building a wooden wall between themselves and God.
II. PEOPLE TODAY HAVE MADE WOOD THEIR GOD.
(Isa 45:20 KJV) Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god that cannot save.
(Ezek 20:32 KJV) And that which cometh into your mind shall not be at all, that ye say, We will be as the heathen, as the families of the countries, to serve wood and stone.
a. Many people are going to be like the people in Noah’s day they are just drifting through life doing whatever they want, now worrying about tomorrow.
b. They have been fooled by Satan into accepting wood instead of gold.
c. They spend most of their time building their wooden images, carved out by them in this world.
1. Who are these people.
a. People that have made this world a priority in their lives.
b. They work for all the things of this world, and don’t have time for God.
c. Even though they are around God and Gods people they are not listening to the message, they just keep building their wooded walls between them and God.
(Just like the people around the ark, they help build the ark)
2. These are also many people in the church every Sunday.
a. I helped build that church, I teach in that church, I mow the grass, I show up most of the time, I support the pastor,
b. You see in Noah’s day many of the people that drowned also help build the ark.
c. You see its not what you do on the outside, its what you are on the inside that matters.
3. Do you really have a relationship with Jesus Christ, is your life really changed, do you really love God, if so then,
a. You will work for God,
b. be in Church on Sunday
without making people beg you to church every Sunday,c. support the church and the work of God,
d. pray and read your bible daily,
e. Commit your life to seeking gold instead of wood.
f. You will be faithful to God and Gods house, and Gods work and yes to Gods man that God has placed over you.
g. You will shun gossip, and deception, and backbiting, and lift up your brothers and sisters in the Lord.
h. Hey you will be a Christian.
III. WALKING ON GOLD
(Rev 21:18 KJV) And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.
(Rev 21:21 KJV) And the twelve gates were twelve pearls: every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.
A. We can either knock on wood or walk on gold.
a. Jesus told us to buy gold, not even mess with wood, because it will be destroyed.
(Rev 3:18 KJV) I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
b. We can build either with wood or gold, its our choice.
(1 Cor 3:12 KJV) Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
(1 Cor 3:13 KJV) Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
c. In every house there is room for both, wood and gold, but its your choice what you will have your house built on.
(2 Tim 2:20 KJV) But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
(2 Tim 2:21 KJV) If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.
d. Its up to you, its your choice, you will answer for it, just like in Noah’s day.
B. Repentance of dead works, of building with wood instead of gold is needed in the Church today.
(Rev 9:20 KJV) And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:
a. A lot of people today hear the message, just like in Noah’s day, but they don’t repent and turn from the works of their own hands the wood that is between them and God, and they will parish.
b. But God is calling out to the world today to repent and turn back to him before it is to late.
