Can You Still Blush

Scripture: Jeremiah 6:8-19

Jeremiah 6:8 Be thou instructed, O Jerusalem, lest my soul depart from thee; lest I make thee desolate, a land not inhabited.

Jeremiah 6:9 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall thoroughly glean the remnant of Israel as a vine: turn back thine hand as a grapegatherer into the baskets.

Jeremiah 6:10 To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear [is] uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.

Jeremiah 6:11 Therefore I am full of the fury of the LORD; I am weary with holding in: I will pour it out upon the children abroad, and upon the assembly of young men together: for even the husband with the wife shall be taken, the aged with [him that is] full of days.

Jeremiah 6:12 And their houses shall be turned unto others, [with their] fields and wives together: for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD.

Jeremiah 6:13 For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one [is] given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.

Jeremiah 6:14 They have healed also the hurt [of the daughter] of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when [there is] no peace.

Jeremiah 6:15 Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time [that] I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.

Jeremiah 6:16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where [is] the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk [therein].

Jeremiah 6:17 Also I set watchmen over you, [saying], Hearken to the sound of the trumpet. But they said, We will not hearken.

Jeremiah 6:18 Therefore hear, ye nations, and know, O congregation, what [is] among them.

Jeremiah 6:19 Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, [even] the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto my words, nor to my law, but rejected it.

1. Jeremiah 6:15 Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time [that] I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.

2. Blush what does it mean: It is a emotion triggered by shame, it causes redness in the face a flushing of the face etc.

3. So what is shame: embarrassment, remorse, humiliation etc.

a. Jeremiah chapter six is the prophet proclaims Gods judgments, its a call to repentance for Jerusalem, the nation of Israel, Gods people.

b. Why was God saying these things to Israel, because they had come to the place in there walk with God that there beliefs, Christian morals, Christian standards had fallen so much that Israel could be in the midst of sin and shame and would not even blush anymore.

c. Much of the Church today is in the same shape as Israel was then.

I. The fallen Nation of Israel

a. They had fallen so far that they would hear the word of God but they would not listen to it or obey: Jeremiah 6:10-Jeremiah 6:10 To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear [is] uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.

b. Furthermore they had fallen into a state of covetousness: Jeremiah 6:13-Jeremiah 6:13 For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one [is] given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.

c. What does covetousness mean: Greed, Selfishness, desire, appetite, craving.

A. The Fallen Church of Today

a. The world has become bombarded by the attacks of Satan and all his sin and lust.

b. The Church has sit ideally by and let Satan do what he wanted to do.

c. The Church has allowed Satan to come right into there homes, lives, and even Churches and slowly rob them of there Christian morals, Christian standards, salvation, and power that the Church once had.

1. First lets look at how this has happened and then the fruit of it happening.

A. We have allowed Satan to continue to get foot holds into our families through several ways.

1 Media: Music, TV

a. It has been proven that what we listen to and watch becomes apart of our characteristics our mannerisms, our behavior, even in the worse cases to carry out terrible crimes from listening to and watching this trash.

b. The Bible even tells us what we take into our hearts is what comes out, (Matt. 15:18-19).

Matthew 15:18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.

Matthew 15:19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornication's, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:

c. Also another interesting scripture is found in (Matt. 6:21-23).

Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Matthew 6:22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

Matthew 6:23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great [is] that darkness!

d. We have control on how much darkness we allow into our hearts. But if we allow to much darkness into our hearts we start trying to serve two masters (Matt. 6:24)

Matthew 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. (but many people try to love both masters)

e. So indeed what we watch, look at, and listen to has a big effect on us.

2. When we listen to music that has lyrics that talk about sex, drugs, alcohol, cheating on your spouse, hate, Satanism, drinking beer, you know all the things that use to be sin. It has an effect on us whether we think it does or not.

a. Isn't it funny when your around somebody that is whistling you start whistling the same tune.

b. shoplifters

c. positive speeches, for sales people works.

3. TV I'm going to talk about the all mighty one eyed god sitting in all of our living rooms.

a. Our homes are set up like church:

1. all the chairs are pointed to the preacher the TV in your living room.

2. Everyone gathers at certain times to receive the message.

3. You live by what you watch on the TV more sometimes than what you hear at church.

Poem about T.V.= The Bible and The TV Guide

On the table side by side the Holy Bible and the TV guide

One is well worn but cherished with pride

not the Bible but the TV guide

One is used daily to help folks decide

No it isn't the Bible its the TV guide

As pages are turned what shall they see

O what does it matter turn on the TV

Then confused they can't all agree

O what they shall watch on the O TV

So they open up the book in which they confide

No it isn't the Bible its the TV guide

The word of God is seldom read,

maybe a verse and then they fall into bed

exhausted and sleepy as tired as can be

not from reading the Bible but watching TV

So then back to the table side by side

Are the Holy Bible and the TV guide

No time for prayer, no time for the word

The plan of salvation is seldom heard

Forgiveness of sin so full and free

is found in the Bible not the TV

4. I'm talking about Christians that spend time every day watching the filth on TV but never hardly pick up there bibles.

a. Is it really more important to find out that your favorite soap hero just left there wife for another women that just happen to be married to his father and had a baby by your best friend who by the way was on drugs and just found out that he had aids.

b. Or watching movies and prime time TV filled with sex and profanity. Isn't something how we come to the point that we no longer say no the films or TV that has these things in them but now we judge them, O that film was really good it only had 4 cuss words in it and only one nude scene, but other than that it was a good film.

c. How much darkness do you let into your heart today.

B. God said to Israel in Jeremiah 6:10 We have lost our shame

Jeremiah 6:10 To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear [is] uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.

a. Have our hears become uncircumcised to Gods words, will we listen to them or do we not have any delight in Gods words anymore.

b. The Church has come to the place like Israel we don't even blush anymore we can be all around the filth of this world and it doesn't even bother us any more.

c. God said to Israel in Jeremiah 6:15

Jeremiah 6:15 Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time [that] I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.

d. We have lost the shame of sin in the world and yes in the Church.

C. So what is the Fruit of this in the Church.

a. Same as Israel, They would not listen or read the Word of God there ears were uncircumcised and they had become covetousness.

1. Ears uncircumcised The word no longer had a effect on them, do you come to church every Sunday and you still keep living in sin or are involved in watching or listening to things you shouldn't be, do you blush anymore does it effect you any more. If not your heart has been hardened and you do not listen to Gods Word anymore.

2. Covetousness= Greed, Selfishness, desire, appetite, craving,

a. Today in the church people have become more selfish with there time, money, talents, they don't have any time for anybody, anything and many times we are self centered around only ourselves.

b. The Church has become greedy for materialistic things, craving the things of this world more than the things of God. All we think about is all the things of this world that we want. In fact that desire is what drives us into ourselves.

c. What did Jesus tell us to seek the Kingdom of God not materialistic things, but all of our time, energy, money, talent is spent many times trying to gain this world.

II. Gods Words to the Church in Jerusalem and to us today.

1. Jeremiah 6:16

Jeremiah 6:16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where [is] the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk [therein].

a. Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good ways, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls.

b. Stand in the way, and ask for the old path.

1. Get back to the Word, read it, live it, ask God to illuminate again in your souls.

2. Remember the words of Jesus in Revelation 2:1-5 to the Church at Ephesus:

Revelation 2:1 Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;

Revelation 2:2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:

Revelation 2:3 And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.

Revelation 2:4 Nevertheless I have [somewhat] against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

Revelation 2:5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

3. We need to return to the first works, clean out our lives and our homes get rid of the things that have crept into our lives and homes.

4. It doen't matter how many good things you have done we have to maintain our Christian walk all the way to glory.

5. We must repent of our sins or face judgment of God (Jeremiah 6:19).

Jeremiah 6:19 Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, [even] the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto my words, nor to my law, but rejected it.

Conclusion: There will be a judgment on our sin God will hold us accountable.

Jeremiah 6:8 Be thou instructed, O Jerusalem, lest my soul depart from thee; lest I make thee desolate, a land not inhabited.

God will draw his spirit from anybody that refuses to listen to his words over and over again. We must listen now and repent and get back to the old ways the old standards, holiness, godliness,
