Scripture:
Luke 2:46 And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.
a. He was about his fathers business doing Gods work even though he knew his father and mother were looking for him, there was more important things to do.
Luke 2:47 And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.
Luke 2:48 And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.
Luke 2:49 And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?
a. The highest priority in Jesus Christ's life was to serve his God not the things of this world even though they may be important they are not more important than caring out the will of the Lord.
b. Well that was the son of God and we are different, we can just sit back and relax because Jesus did it all. Wrong, you are the sons of God, you should be just as concerned about pleasing your father as he was.
(John 1:12 KJV) But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
(1 John 3:1 KJV) Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
(1 John 3:2 KJV) Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
(Rom 8:14 KJV) For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
THREE THINGS WE MUST DO GET UP, GET OUT, AND GET WITH IT
I. Get Up
(Isa 40:5 KJV) And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
(Isa 40:6 KJV) The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field:
(Isa 40:7 KJV) The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.
(Isa 40:8 KJV) The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
(Isa 40:9 KJV) O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!
1 "TIDINGS": In the Septuagint the clause, "that bringest good tidings," is expressed by <euaggelizo> (also 41:27; 52:7; 60:6; 61:1), which in the N.T. is the verb often used for declaring good tidings, or preaching the Gospel (e.g. Luke 1:19; 7:22; 8:1; Acts 8:4; 10:36; 15:35; Rom 1:15; 1 Cor 15:2; etc.). Our words "evangelize" and "evangelism" are derived from this Greek verb.
a. God is telling us to arise and behold your God, to tell all the lost of the world to get up off of our duffs and do something.
b. Many times we would rather run than do what God wants us to do like Jonah.
(Jonah 1:2 KJV) Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.
(Jonah 1:3 KJV) But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.
c. We are so comfortable where we are we don't want to compromise our position in this world. Like Jonah he was afraid because the people of Ninivah was wicked he didn't want to compromise his comfortable life style. He had a nice little home that was comfortable went to church of Sunday and sang the three songs and listened to the sermon and then went home. Nothing required except to enjoy life right! Wrong!
d. Time to wake up the time is short, and people are dying in sin, we are dying in sin because we have allowed Satan to hypnotize us and we are asleep to the reality of sin.
(Rom 13:11 KJV) And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
(Rom 13:12 KJV) The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
(Rom 13:13 KJV) Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
(Rom 13:14 KJV) But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
e. We have to get up from where we are and raise ourselves up and awaken ourselves to a lost and dying world and then move on to the second stage get out.
II. GET OUT
A. First We must get out of sin or anything that is keeping us from doing Gods will even people or family can keep us from doing Gods will.
(2 Cor 6:14 KJV) Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
(2 Cor 6:15 KJV) And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
(2 Cor 6:16 KJV) And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
(2 Cor 6:17 KJV) Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
(2 Cor 6:18 KJV) And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
(2 Cor 7:1 KJV) Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
B. Second we must get out of our comfort zone and be available for change.
(Mark 16:15 KJV) And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
(Mark 16:16 KJV) He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
(Mark 16:17 KJV) And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
(Mark 16:18 KJV) They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
(Mark 16:19 KJV) So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
(Mark 16:20 KJV) And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
a. They were a few hundred followers and believers that followed Jesus everywhere he went.
b. But Jesus had showed them and taught them everything while he was on earth it was now time for them to get out on there own, to take what they had received and freely give.
Matt. 10:8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.
c. Get our of our comfort zone, our little part of the world that we like to hide in and see the big picture of what God wants to do. We see this in Abraham's life in
(Acts 7:2 KJV) And he said, Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken; The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran,
(Acts 7:3 KJV) And said unto him, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and come into the land which I shall show thee.
1. We have to willing to give up everything to move out of our comfort zone.
(Mat 10:37 KJV) He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
(Luke 14:33 KJV) So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.
2. It takes faith to step out for God, we must be willing to trust God to move out of our comfort zone.
(Heb 11:8 KJV) By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
d. Sometimes God brings things into the Church to get them out of there comfort zone, sometimes he brings things into our lives to try and jar us out of our comfort zone. Problem is we don't recognize what God is trying to do we just fret and fill sorry for ourselves, but maybe we ought to look at the big picture like Abraham and realize God is trying to save this world from their own sin and provide a promise land and he needs us to help him.
(Acts 8:1 KJV) And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles.
(Acts 8:2 KJV) And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him.
(Acts 8:3 KJV) As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison.
(Acts 8:4 KJV) Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.
III. GET ON WITH IT
A. Finally when God can get us up, and get us out, He wants us to get on with it.
a. Get on with what?
1. (Acts 8:4 KJV) Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.
2. (Mark 16:20 KJV) And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
3. We are to be a light house for God, a witness for him not hiding our light under a basket.
(Mat 5:13 KJV) Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
(Mat 5:14 KJV) Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
(Mat 5:15 KJV) Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
(Mat 5:16 KJV) Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
4. Start to Pray and make Gods house a house of prayer instead a house of play, or a comfort zone or country club, or convenience rest stop. Jesus takes his house pretty serious even if you don't.
(Mat 21:12 KJV) And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,
(Mat 21:13 KJV) And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.
4. Get on with His will not ours, The only thing Jesus wanted to do was do the will of His Father. More than food etc.
(John 4:31 KJV) In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat.
(John 4:32 KJV) But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.
(John 4:33 KJV) Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat?
(John 4:34 KJV) Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
(John 4:35 KJV) Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
(John 4:36 KJV) And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.
(John 4:37 KJV) And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.
(John 4:38 KJV) I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.
a. Gods will for us is to reap the harvest, God has done the work through his Son all we have to do is go out and sow the word or reap where another has sowed.
1. BUT FIRST WE HAVE TO GET UP, GET OUT AND GET ON WITH IT,
2. WE HAVE TO GET OFF OF OUR BEHINDS, QUIT BEING LAZY, MAKE SOME TIME FOR GOD AND ALLOW GOD TO USE US.
3. WE HAVE TO BE WILLING TO CHANGE, WILLING TO DO, WILLING TO SACRIFICE FOR OTHERS INSTEAD OF OURSELVES.
