Scripture: Is. 40:31
Isaiah 40:28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, [that] the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? [there is] no searching of his understanding.
Isaiah 40:29 He giveth power to the faint; and to [them that have] no might he increaseth strength.
Isaiah 40:30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew [their] strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; [and] they shall walk, and not faint.
A. Renew does not mean to refill. When we read Isaiah 40:31 we have thought that renew means to refill, for God to pour some more in, but that's not what God is saying.
a. Renew: Means to Restore, Recreate, and Refurbish.
b. Renew: Means their is some construction going on in your life, God is wanting to rebuild your relationship with him, take it back to when he first touched your life, restore the fire that was once their.
1. The reason the Church is weak, the reason we are weak Christians, is because we have allowed our faith, our relationship with God to become run down.
a. If we don't repair our natural homes when they need it they become run down, and then It costs lots of money to repair them.
2. You might be here today and say well the Pastors not talking about me, I'm okay but lets take a test this morning?
a. Do you pray every day for an extended amount of time at least 1 hour?
b. Do you read your bible and study it every day, more than reading a few verses.
Can you use the word of God, "a workman that not be ashamed".
c. Are you working in your local Church in a consistent basis, this means ministry and physical helps?
d. Have you won souls to the kingdom of God this year, and continue to witness to the loss?
e. Do you give to your Local Church as God has commanded in tithes and offerings?
______________________________________________________________________
NOW LETS GET DOWN TO THE HARD ONES
f. Do you have Jesus love in your heart for the loss and also for your brothers, and sisters in the Lord? Instead of talking about people you should be praying for them and maybe for your own attitude.
g. Are you living an overcoming life, free from sin?
Galatians 5:16 [This] I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
Galatians 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
Galatians 5:18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
Galatians 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are [these]; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Galatians 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Galatians 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told [you] in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
h. Is the manifestation of the fruit of the Spirit in your life?
Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Galatians 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Galatians 5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
Galatians 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
3. We are just talking about renew in Is. 40:31.
a. Renew means a rebuilding of your life, giving you the strength to live your life through the Lord and walk in all these areas as he wants you to.
I. Renew, how do we do this? We wait upon the Lord.
A. Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew [their] strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; [and] they shall walk, and not faint.
a. They that wait is used as a verb.
b. What is a person called that comes to your table in your favorite restaurant. Yes a waiter.
c. And what does your waiter do. Yes he serves you.
d. So wait means serve and in this scripture this is exactly what God is saying.
e. He's not telling you to go into a room somewhere and lock your self in and sit and wait.
f. He's telling you that as you wait "serve" the Lord he will renew your strength.
B. So how do we serve the Lord?
1. IN DOING
a. We read, we study, we pray, we work, we give, we walk in his paths, we witness, we serve God and each other.
b. See we are losing our strength because we aren't doing.
c. We do a little, Just enough to make our conscious fill good but we aren't serving Christ we are just giving him the leftovers.
2. So as we really wait "serve" upon the Lord he will renew our strength.
a. You have heard it said there is no spectator's bench in heaven. You can't ride your pew to heaven, You will end up in the same place as the servant that buried his talent.
b. If we don't wait "serve" the Lord then we just become weaker and weaker until we don't have anything any more and we either leave the Church or we stay in it doing nothing and being a vegetable to the kingdom of God.
II. We Must Be Renewed In The Mind To Wait On The Lord.
A. Renewed in the mind.
Ephesians 4:1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
Ephesians 4:2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
Ephesians 4:17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,
Ephesians 4:18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
Ephesians 4:19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
Ephesians 4:20 But ye have not so learned Christ;
Ephesians 4:21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:
Ephesians 4:22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
Ephesians 4:23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
Ephesians 4:24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Ephesians 4:25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.
Ephesians 4:26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
Ephesians 4:27 Neither give place to the devil.
Ephesians 4:28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with [his] hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
Ephesians 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
Ephesians 4:31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
Ephesians 4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
B. How do we do this by the renewed in the spirit of our minds.
a. Lets look at Romans 12:1,2
Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service.
Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
1. How do we do this?
2Co. 4:16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
2. It's a putting on of the knowledge of God day by day.
Colossians 3:1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
Colossians 3:2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Colossians 3:3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
Colossians 3:4 When Christ, [who is] our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
Colossians 3:5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
Colossians 3:6 For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
Colossians 3:7 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
Colossians 3:8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
Colossians 3:9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
Colossians 3:10 And have put on the new [man], which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
a. Its seeking those things above, setting your affection or love on things above and being renewed in the knowledge of God on a daily basis.
III. We Must Allow The Renewing Of The Holy Ghost
Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
A. The Bible says washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Ghost.
a. One changes your state in life and the other keeps you in that new state.
B. Jesus made it real clear that he was going away but he would not leave us comfortless but would send the Holy Ghost to help us.
John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
John 14:17 [Even] the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
John 14:18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
John 14:19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.
John 14:25 These things have I spoken unto you, being [yet] present with you.
John 14:26 But the Comforter, [which is] the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
John 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the father, he shall testify of me:
John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth: It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
a. The Holy Spirit is here for the renewing of your spirit with God and renewing of the knowledge of God in your spirit and also much more.
b. Jesus thought it so important that the disciple receive this free gift the Holy Ghost he was sending that he commanded them in Luke 24:49.
Luke 24:49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you; but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
Acts 1:4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saithhe, ye have heard of me.
Acts 1:5 For John truly baptized with water: but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
C. A lot of Christians wonder why they can't live the life for Jesus that they know they must. Its because your not allowing the renewing of the Holy Ghost in your life.
Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
1. The power of the Holy Ghost was sent to us by the Father to enpower us to live for him, because without it we will stumble and fall again and again into sin.
2. The bible tells us to be filled with the spirit, it is a daily filling, we must be renewed daily to live for him.
3. Much of the Church today does not want to allow the Holy Ghost to work in there midst's but God warns us in ITh. 5:19
ITh. 5:19 Quench not the Spirit.
Ep. 4:30 And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
4. A lot of so called Christians won't allow the Holy Spirit to renew them because he is as a fire that burns away all the worldliness in there lives. They don't want to give up there worldliness. They want to be a Christian but they don't want to give up there foul mouths, there soap operas and TV shows, there gambling and bingo, there drinking and carousing, there gossiping and dividing, their habits of this world, Their half hearted, lukewarm devotion to God, they don't want to get to close to the Holy Spirit and allow him to change their lives.
5. We need to allow the renewing of the Holy Ghost in our lives today to change us and keep us in that place that is pleasing to God.
THEY THAT WAIT UPON THE LORD SHALL RENEW THEIR STRENGTH
RENEW-SERVE
RENEWED-IN MIND
RENEWING-OF THE HOLY GHOST
Conclusion: Tired of being a weak Christian, want to do great things for the kingdom of God, want revival in your heart and spirit, THEN WAIT ON THE LORD.
