The Continuing Story...

Well, the girls are 17 months old! They have jumped by leaps and bounds in the last 3 months! Catie is up to 13 lbs and 28". Shannon is up to 15lbs 14oz and 29". Shannon sees everything! In the last month she has: started crawling, started clapping, saying baba, and just recently started pulling herself to a standing position. She also has started taking steps while holding your hands. They eat all kinds of table food. The doctor put them on Boost nutritional drink (Pediasure was too expensive and not covered by our insurance). They get 8 oz a day to help boost their caloric intake because he says they're not gaining enough. I told him they've been sick a lot and they won't eat when they are sick (stomach flu twice in 2 months).

Catie still does not sit by herself. Her right side was affected by the brain bleed. She keeps her right arm tight to her side and has just recently started using it during her therapy sessions as long as you hold her other hand down. Catie talked first. She started saying ba ba and a week later started saying da da! She still has not said ma ma yet! She rolls all over the place. She sat for 23 seconds by herself for the PT. Once she realized she was by herself she fell right back. Catie doesn't put pressure on her legs. Her right foot is turned in and it is hard for her to stand on it. She will assist her right hand with her left at times. She will not voluntarily use it by itself. She hasn't had any problems since last August with her shunt. The doctor said she will probably have to have it replaced around 2 years old, when they have a growth spurt. I'm not looking forward to that.

The girls have come a long way. They are now jumping in leaps in bounds. They are still small for their age, and a bit behind in development, but I look at it this way: God put them on this earth ealy for a reason. The challenges they overcome now will teach them to fight and overcome any obstalces in the future. They are special and beautiful girls. I thank God every day to have them with me. I look forward to their future.
