Our First Wedding Anniversary, April 24,2000 |
To celebrate our first year of married life, we took to the winding roads of the Pacific coastline!! We wanted to spend our first anniversary in Monterey, California where it's the perfect setting for those in love!! Our six day journey began on April 21, 2000 (Good Friday). After attending the Good Friday service at our church we were off on our adventure! But we suffered a minor setback at the onset of our trip. The two hour border wait at the U.S./Canada border was too much for our Miata's 10 year old battery. It died just as we stopped for a break at a rest area just across the border! We thank the Lord for providing strangers to help jump start our car till we were able to get a replacement battery in Beaverton, Oregon the following day. We passed by some beautiful sights like: the super big waves along the California coastline, frolicking sea lions in the open sea, the magnificent Redwood Forest along the "Avenue of the Giants", the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and the sandy beaches of Carmel. And of course we couldn't pass by Oregon without stopping by a huge factory outlet mall in Woodburn to shop since there's no taxes on goods or food in Oregon. So from Vancouver, we drove south passing through three American states: Washingon, Oregon, then California. The farthest point being Big Sur in California before heading home to Vancouver. We travelled in total around 4,000 km round trip in little Miata!!! We took our time driving down but coming home was a different story. It was straight driving on our last day. We drove 16 hours straight before reaching home by 2 a.m.!! We both had to return to work the following morning so we just grabbed a few hours sleep before heading off to work!! And Daniel did all the driving since I don't know how to drive a standard that well. He's also used to long road trips since he loves to drive. We both got sun burn on our faces driving with the top down since it was so warm and sunny the whole week we were away. A leftover momento that we were ever gone!! |
