In March of 1999, I had the experience of going to Norway.
You see I am half Norwegian and quite proud of that fact, and always have been.  :)
So you see for me to have had the opportunity to go, it really meant something to me.
While in Norway,  I stayed in a small town called Andebu,
or as they call it there, "Duck City"      :)

It snowed for most of the time I was there, but even with all of the snow, Norway was just as beautiful as I had imagined.

Here you see a picture of Andebu from the place I stayed.  Everyone that I met there were very nice people.  I really had a nice time for the two weeks that I was there.
I visited many places in Tønsberg.
Tønsberg is just about 20 minutes drive from Andebu.

One of the things that I saw while I was there, and consider to be a special place, is this beatuful old casle that over looks the whole town of Tønsberg.
This Castle is called
Slottsfjellet.
It's more beautiful in person than what you can see on this picture.

It seems that no matter where you are in Tønsberg,
it's almost like you can see that castle from anywhere.

At night the castle is just beautiful,  It stands alone on that hill and lights surround it.  Even from a distance,  you can see it glowing.

Here is the picture that I took of this castle one night, and also a picture of the view of part of Tønsberg from up on the hill.
Oh man it was cold out that night,
but I think the picture was worth the walk up there in the dark.

It's a beautiful place.
Maybe one of the two most beautiful places in Tønsberg.
I had the experience of spending a night at a cabin in Brevik while I was in Norway.  Four of us took a ferry boat from Brevik, (shown here in this first picture).  It was a beautiful place, and actually it was my first time on a ferry boat.

After we got off the boat we hiked to the cabin.  That was fun, but after we got to the cabin, something was wrong.....  NO ELECTRIC.....
So we had no heat or lights for the first two hours that we were there.  We survived it though, even though we froze.  :)

While we waited for it to be fixed we played cards and I even learned a new card game.  But even after the things that went wrong,  I can honestly say I had an enjoyable time there.

Here in this second picture is the view that you would see from the cabin.  It's called Brevikfjorden.  I think that is a beautiful place, and if it's beautiful in the winter just think what it would be like in the summer!!
Oseberghaugen  -  The Oseberg Find

I went to this place  -
Real Viking History -
This was the place that in 1904 a viking ship was excavated in Vestfold County.  The ship was named
The Oseberg Ship after the farm where it was found.  Studies indicate that this mound that the ship was found burried in was built up in the 830's.  (yes, I did my homework)    :))

When I went there I just couldn't believe that after all these years of dreaming about being there,  I was actually there.  I Knew that before I came back home to the States, I had to do something that maybe you all think would be crazy.
So here I stood and took off my socks and shoes and stood on Viking Ground.

I know you maybe think that I am nuts, but it's something I have dreamed about for years, and my day had finally come.  Yes it was March, and it was cold.  At least it wasn't snowing that day.  But I did run through the snow there.
It was an experience I will never forget.    :)

Here in these pictures you see first the hill that was built up, and that was where the Viking ship was found.  And the second picture....  Just me with my bare feet.   :)
