Ploughed fieldSorry, your browser doesn't support Java(tm).

I write this for you all, on the first Easter Sunday of the new millennium. The picture is quite horrific, as you can see, but I want to get across to you, just how much the Lord Jesus loves you.

The Bible says, "He suffered and endured great pain for us..." Look at his body in the picture - totally torn and mutilated! This week I went to hospital to have an ulcer cut out of my back. I have a scar about 6 cms long and ten stitches. It has been quite painful. But look at the scars of the Lord; His flesh torn with the whip and no anaesthetics, painkillers or stitches. No caring nurse to dress His dreadful wounds!

He went through all this for you!

God's word says, "Pilate gave orders for Jesus to be beaten with a whip. The soldiers made a crown of thorny branches and put it on Jesus. Then they put a purple robe on him. They came to him and said, 'Hey you King of the Jews!' They also beat him with their fists."

The Bible says, "He was wounded and crushed because of our sins; by taking our punishment he made us completely well." You and I deserved to be punished for our sin and rebellion against a Holy God. But Jesus took our place! "All of us were like sheep that had wandered off. We each had gone our own way, but the LORD gave him the punishment we deserved."

That punishment was awful indeed, because sin is so awful, destroying God's universe. Bible words again help us to understand the horror, "...my back is like a field that has just been ploughed." We can imagine the farmer's field freshly ploughed up; the brown soil and the deep furrows to receive the new seed. We can imagine the lashes of the whip leaving their long deep red furrows on Jesus' back and body!

The Bible says, "He was painfully abused, but he did not complain. He was silent like a lamb being led to the butcher..."

It just blows my mind that Jesus loved me so much, to silently allow cruel men to abuse Him and to butcher Him, so that I could be forgiven and have a place in Heaven for ever as God's son.

What a wonderful God...

What a marvelous God...

What a wonderful God Jesus is!
