Ireland and Scotland here we come...

Itinerary

Well, we are jetting out, June 29 2000 and will be gone 6.5 weeks.

First leg to Singapore (8 hours) where we'll stay the night at the Peninsular Hotel.

Friday 1st on to Dublin via Heathrow. 13.3 hours first leg then 1.1 hours to Dublin arriving 7.15PM.

We have prebooked 2 nights at a Bed & Breakfast (B&B) to have a look at Dublin and get our land legs back before driving off in an Avis car for the next 19 days.

We'll probably head south keeping pretty much to the coast and stay a night or 2 where it takes our fancy and trip inland from there.

We have been positively swamped with info on 'must see' places from friends who have been there and would need at least a year to see them all. Particularly though we 'must see' Cork and the Blarney castle where my McCarthy ancestors were said to have originated from. Also 'The Ring of Kerry', 'The Dingle Peninsula', Cashel, Galway, and also to lady I've been corresponding with who has a B&B in Boyle (County Roscommon) etc etc! And we have friends who'll be visiting relatives in County Antrim, Northern Ireland and hope also to spend some time with them.

Friday June 21 we'll be leaving our car at DunLaoghaire (south of Dublin) and ferrying across to Holyhead in Wales where we'll pick up another car for the next 3 weeks.

We'll spend the first night around Holyhead before driving south to check out Swansea (171 miles, about 4.5 hours drive) where we may spend another night before heading north through the Lakes District of England to our ultimate destination, The 'Isle of Skye', off Scotland. Here of course we'll be visiting Dunvegan Castle, home of the MacLeod ancestors.

After that we'll amble back to Edinburgh and find a flight to connect us with our Singapore Airlines flight from Heathrow and then to Singapore where we'll spend another night at the Peninsular Hotel before flying home on August 13.
