Saturday 15 July

Cheryl had rung early to say a friend had died. This was very sad but not unexpected as he'd had a heart attack before we left home. First thing we bought a card for his mother before realising we didn't have her address. I tried to ring Cheryl to get her to find it for me but couldn't get through on the mobile. During the next hour and a half I tried again and several times rang the help line to find out why...getting lots of different answers! Finally we found out that although we were receiving international calls our account was 'blocked' the other way!

By this time I was really stressed and realised that although we hadn't really intended to use the mobile to ring home I must have subconsciously regarded it as a life line to use if necessary and the first time we tried... it had failed! I was angry with Optus for messing up when I had tried so hard to organise it right before leaving home. And then, believe it or not, our mobile was 'out of range' for the most part of the afternoon ...the first time in 2 weeks!

Today was dull and overcast again with much of the scenery unremarkable. Rocky mountains and even rockier beaches, however there was one mountain peak that WAS spectacular (Mt Errigal). We took lots of photos of its grey rock top before a very weak spot of sunshine flashed onto it so we took some more photos.

We then travelled across to Glenveagh National Park and booked a castle tour from the information centre there. It was a short bus trip then, around a spectacular lake to the castle, which turned out to be just a rich American's hunting mansion built in 1830 after which he proceeded to evict all the tenant farmers from the 2,500 acres. The gardens were beautiful though.

As we had no mobile usage we couldn't book ahead for accommodation so pulled up at the first one we came to at Letterkenny. A luxurious modern home, obviously purposes built for use as a B & B with at least 3 enormous double bedrooms with en-suites, beautifully furnished.
