We decided today to wander over to Forfar to investigate the birthplace of one of my forefathers, John MacDonald. A trip into Pitlochry first for a new camera battery.

Then out through Moulin & Kinnaird, across the Moulin Moors. A pretty run but all through light to moderate rain too wet for photos. Most of the road to Bridge of Cally was single lane with 'passing bays' which made for interesting travelling in the rain. Fortunately the traffic was very scarce through there.

On to Rattray and then west to Forfar through reasonably flat and productive looking farmland of mixed crops, cattle and sheep. Forfar itself has an interesting triangular building right in the middle of town with roads around all three sides. We visited a museum with an excellent display...ancient days through to olden days... They had a re-creation of an ancient burial crypt, complete with skeleton.

Also a replication of streets around the castle, showing shops complete with mannequins, shop fittings and tools.

I was able to get some Inf. on genealogy sources and was advised to visit the library at Montrose. We saw several buildings in town that would have been there at the start of the 1800s and therefore possibly seen or used by my forefather so we took photos there too. (Including original sections of cobbled streets).

From there, out to the coast and Montrose. Still raining on and off so not much sight seeing. We found a pub for lunch then on to the library to check microfiche records. No luck there I'm afraid.
