1857, October 10. Lieut. Philip Salkeld, Bengal Engineers, Indian Army kia Delhi, India. On Sept. 14, 1857, Lieut. Salkeld with three others showed gallantry in the desperate task of blowing in the Kashmir Gate in broad daylight under heavy musket fire. For his valor he was awarded the Victoria Cross.

1917, August 23. Chief Engineer Emerson Ruddock Salkeld, Mercantile Marine, S.S. "Nevisbrook", Aged 44, Son of Joseph Chipchase Salkeld and Ann Isabella Salkeld; husband of Ann Salmon Salkeld. Salkeld lost his life in 1917 while serving on the SS Nevisbrook. The Nevisbrook was torpedoed and sunk, without warning by a German U-boat 90 miles west of the Fastnet Rock, while en route La Goulette to Barrow-in-Furness carrying a cargo of Iron Ore.
