Thomas was the son of Ezekiel and Rebecca Mathews. He is probably a descendant of Ezekiel Mathis of Isle of Wight Co. Virginia.
Thomas is thought to have married in Laurens Co. He married Jane McDavid who was born 1788 in SC. She died 30 May, 1836 in Marion Co., and the daughter of William McDavid and wife Nancy Dorrah and the grand daughter of Patrick McDavid of Delaware.
The Mathews family moved to TN., about the same time the Samuel Weeks family moved. Thomas and his family lived east of Duck River and closer to Chattanooga. Then in 1823 both families moved to Marion Co. Alabama, as did the Joshua Taylor's.
These families were related in some way and I believe it was through the Jone's. Thomas and Jane named their second son John JONES and Jeptha Weeks wife was Sarah Jones, daughter of Britton Jones.
It appears that the younger children moved to Missouri with their older brother Ezekiel as both parents died before they reached adulthood
