All of the books listed here are favourites, and I find it difficult to choose between them. Read any of them and you will learn something. They are nearly all very entertaining... I dislike stodgy writing.

Foundation by Isaac Asimov - and all the 'Foundation' series.
The Caves of Steel by Isaac Asimov - and all the 'Elijah Bailey' series, my favourite author.
Out of the Dark Planet by C.S. Lewis - and the 'Perelandra' books, supernaturally inspiring.
Earth by David Brin, environmentally insightful... very well written.
Footfall by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle, very insightful and hopeful human portrait.
The Hammer of God by Arthur C. Clarke - Clarke is always excellent.
Gateway by Frederick Phol - and all the 'Gateway' series.
Sentenced to Prism by Alan Dean Foster, amazing alternate evolutionary descriptions.
The Cyber Way by Alan Dean Foster - mystic power manifested realisticaly.
Nor Crystal Tears by Alan Dean Foster - what would alien insects be like?
For Love of Mother Not by Alan Dean Foster - and all the 'Flinx' series, escape to the future.
2001:A Space Odyssey by Arthur C. Clarke - and all the "Odyssey" series.
Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card - and all the 'Ender' books, gripping story.
The Call of Earth by Orson Scott Card - and all the 'Homeward' series, thought-provoking saga.
The Legacy of Heorot by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle, white-knuckle action.
The Mote in God's Eye by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle, thrilling suspense and excitement.

Fiction

The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky, this Russian is AWESOME.
The Wedding Contract by Honore de Balzac and many other titles, a very amusing frenchman.
Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe, the first real novel I ever owned... thanks Auntie Sue.
A Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood - the queen of the unusual 'atmosphere'.
Seventh Son by Orson Scott Card - and all the 'Alvin Maker' series, fantasy that makes you want to believe it!.
Lost Boys by Orson Scott Card.- excellent depiction of Mormon Life.
The Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis - A description of the afterlife you will never forget.
The Cruel Sea by Alistair MacLean - any book by Alistair MacLean, amazing descriptive talent!
Brothers by Ben Bova - Very good author, with many other excellent titles.

Non Fiction

Airbourne by William F. Buckley Jr., A delicious sailing adventure, very absorbing and amusing.
Atlantic High by William F. Buckley Jr., Another wonderful sailing adventure, full of Mr. Buckley's gentle humour, gives a wonderful atmosphere when read.
The Four Loves by C.S. Lewis, Do you know what love is? You will after reading this.
The Origins of Virtue by Matt Ridley, A clear an vivid explaination of how human virtue has come about.

Biographies

Always a Countryman by Lord Tweedsmuir - An Englishman to the core.
Surprised by Joy by C.S. Lewis - Very astute mind.
The Moon's a Balloon by David Niven - You could never even imagine this man's life!
Out of Character by Maureen Forester - A Canadian singer's life... Classic Canadiana.

Children's

The Magician's Nephew by C.S. Lewis - and all the 'Narnia' series, unsurpassed quality.
Tarzan by Edgar Rice Burroughs - and all the 'Tarzan' series, marvellous escapism and adventure. I've got the whole set of paperbacks that my Dad read... thanks Dad!
