Leaders of The
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints (Salt Lake City) have been
overwhelmed by those wishing to attend
the 170th Annual General Conference, to
be held at the new Conference Center on
April 1-2. "It's thrilling and
gratifying to see the response of our
members around the world," stated
Bishop H. David Burton, Presiding Bishop
of the Church in a recent press release
"President Hinckley indicated at the
outset that he felt many members would
like to attend conference in person, but
were previously unable to fit into the 6,000-seat
Tabernacle."Bishop Burton said that
no facility would be large enough to
handle the more than 370,000 ticket
requests from those wishing to attend
general conference, and that there was
undoubtedly a heightened demand this time
because it will be the first occasion the
new building will be used.
The Internet Index of the Pedigree
Resource File (PRF) is the latest
addition to the FamilySearch™
Internet Service www.familysearch.org offered by The
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints. In a recent press release Richard
E. Turley Jr., managing director for the
Family History Department of the Church,
stated, "With the master index, when
a user conducts an ancestor search on the
FamilySearch Internet site, the Pedigree
Resource File database will be searched
along with the other databases the Church
has on-line (over 640 million names)."
The PRF international database is growing
at a phenomenal rate of 1.1 million names
a month from user contributions. Over 40
percent of the records submitted are from
users outside the U.S., Canada, and the
British Isles.
