Christmas 1999
Dear Friends and Family
Move # 14 has happened and we are back to Ft. Leavenworth. I wish we
could say that all the boxes were unpacked and we were organized and
settled but that will be our New Year’s resolution. We need eight days
in a week to get everything done. It has been fun to move back and see
some old friends again. Not much has changed. Even with the move last
summer we took some time off to do some camping. We were able to visit
Scott’s brother in St. George and camp in Zion’s National Park. The
breath taking views were well worth the hikes. We spent another week in
Yellowstone and followed Grandpa Bell around Sand Point for some great
fishing. The fish stories are real whoppers now.
Scott is loving his job here at the college as the Chief of Acquisition
Education. The family was excited that he was promoted to Lieutenant
Colonel this year - no small fete in today’s downsized Army. He has been
swallowed up by the Boy Scouts of America and is the Scoutmaster for the
church’s troop. He got excited about the archery merit badge and has
become quite an archer. He says it relieves stress to hit the bull’s-eye
with a sharp object. It reminds him of his old tank days.
Wendy keeps busy chasing the kids around. On Sundays she teaches the
Young Women and church and during the week she helps with the Cub Scouts
as a Den leader. She also started working at the hospital two days a week
as an X-ray tech doing mammograms. In her spare time she is still running
and managed to complete a half-marathon last spring. She would love to
find a partner and do a marathon in 2000. Anybody interested?
Heidi has really missed California but that hasn’t stopped her from
getting involved here. She is busy with band and drama. She is driving us
crazy - literally. She has a driving permit and wants to drive everywhere.
In February she won’t have to have a parent in the car - Do you think we’ll
ever see her again?
After leading his football team in touchdowns, Jacob is trying another
new sport this year - Wrestling! It has been fun to see him learn
something totally new. That hasn’t stopped him from playing basketball,
soccer and football. He is a Deacon at church and is active in the
boyscouts where he is a patrol leader.
Shane’s teacher couldn’t believe he was new to the school this
year. He has made so many friends and fits in so well. He did great in
soccer this fall and is trying basketball now. His biggest hobby right now
is Pokemon and he is enjoying being a member of the Cub Scouts. He
recently earned his Bear and his Faith in God award.
Kyle started talking this year and he hasn’t stopped. We are amazed
at his vocabulary. He has a blast riding his bike down the hill into a
pile of leaves and doing whatever the big kids do. He definitely keeps us
laughing.
We hope this letter finds you all well,
Scott, Wendy, Heidi, Jacob, Shane, and Kyle |
