| Victoria Smith, daughter of John Smith and Margaret Chapman,was born in 1848 in Cabell County, VA (WV). She was first married (Dec. 27, 1867) to Sylvanious Taylor Newman (son of Joseph Newman). By this marriage there were two children John E. and Charles. Mr. Newman died and Victoria then married John Shelby Flynn (3-26-1872). John Flynn had probably been married before as he had with him a daughter, Elizabeth, who was born abt. 1863. I know little about John at this time. My dad said he died around 1910 and was probably buried in the Chapman Cem. but that is just a guess. Dad and some other family members always said that Victoria told them she was an Indian. He told me some great stories that she had told him as a little boy. I think Victoria was just telling her grandson a big tale. Maybe she was an Indian, I think she looks like one, but the records say otherwise. Dad also said she use to sit on the porch and smoke a clay pipe. She died in 1929. |
