Morton Weekends & Vacations - 2006
Let's just say that we weren't idle in 2006........
Grandma came to visit in late May. The girls got out of school for a week and we went to visit our dear friend Elizabeth in Maine. Here are the girls climbing a tree on the Marginal Way near Ogunquit, ME. They also enjoyed climbing on the rocks and seeing all the boats in Perkins Cove. A place that evokes lots of fond memories for Gretchen, who has visited these spots since she was younger than Grace!
In August David took each of the girls for a little camping trip. (Logistics by Gretchen). Here they are camping at Cherry Plain State Park just 30 minutes or so from the house.
In late August we made our annual trek to Cape Cod. We stayed at the same Post-and-Beam barn we'd rented several years before. It feels like home and is nice, quiet and comfy for all. We take lots of hikes, go to the beach and take lots of bike outings.
In August, Aunt Susan came
to visit all the way from Missouri. We went to Saratoga
very early one morning to have a fancy breakfast
trackside and watch the horses exercise. It is a
traditional thing to do in the August place to be -
Saratoga!! Gretchen & Susan took several side trips. They went to Wilmington, VT to drop off a quilt for Sarah to be quilted. The highlight however, was a two day stay at a womens retreat on Lake George - Wiawaka. It is a 100 year old camp made available to women of all socio-economic levels to be able to get away. It was originally founded for women of Troy working in the mills 6-days a week who otherwise couldn't afford such a luxury. It is a very neat historical place - and the water is wonderful! |
|
With much sadness (especially on the part of David) we made our last trek to the Catskill Game Farm. This place has existed for over 70 years. David recalls many fun trips as a child. Each year we have gone with the girls and taken their picture on this rock near the rhino display. Sadly - this will be the last shot! |
|
In July, Gretchen and the girls went to Sylvan Beach, NY with the Harris' family. They had a nice 2 day stay. The sunsets were marvelous. Other than a LOT of wind - it was a fun time had by all. |
