Re: Branscome
"I have never been to War W.Va., but my father and my Uncle were born there. My grandfather was a blacksmith there in the very early 1900's. I have a letter written about 1910 from my grandfather who was living in War trying to convince my grandmother to bring their little baby girl and come to War that he had found a place for them to live. Your site is very nice and I enjoyed it. My grandfather's name was Walker Branscome. Deechapman85@yahoo.com."

Re: Higgins, Graham
"Wow! ... [some personal information omitted for privacy sake] ... My mother's sister's name was Ruby, she married Kenneth Graham. I have been going through old photos and looking up family names. There are 2 pictures you have posted of folks to the ones I have. I am not sure if some of the photos I have are from my Aunt Ruby [Higgins] Graham's husband's side ... or if they are my Higgins. They do not have info. My grandfather's name was George Higgins. Had a sister named Annie and Minnie? Brothers, Frank, Lee, Andy. Almost all of my photos have something written somewhere on them but the ones that do not sure look like some of yours. You did a great job with this site. Thanks for sharing. If you would like to contact me, please email. Best Regards, Kelly."

Re: Potter, Barrett, Stutso, Dykes, Clingenpeel, Linkous
"The people I remember most from my childhood were Helen Potter, Gwen Barrett, Theresa Stutso, Rex Dykes, Theresa Clingenpeel and Johnny Linkous. Have you heard from any of these people? I lived there until I was eleven years old and
moved to New Jersey and have lived here since. I remember spending my
summers climbing those beautiful mountains. I lived on Beach Hill. Nancy D. Collins."

Re: McGlothin
"I was wondering if you had any information on the last name McGlothin. My grandpa was Grandville b.1897 d.1963 and grandma Mazie. My dad and his family grew up in War and grandma lived there until she died in '79. I have visited War a few times and am surprised to find a site dedicated to it. Thanks, you brought back good memories; especially the lake. S.W. McGlothin

Re: Christian
"Dear Sir or Madam, I am doing research on 1920's/1930's dance band leader Tommy Christian. Simply, I would like to know exactly where and when he was born and where and when he died. I only know he was from South Georgia. Is Tommy Christian related to your family? If not perhaps you could suggest how I could confine my research to a particular Christian family contact or website? I have found it difficult getting on genealogy websites. Thank you. Sincerely, Jerry Rothstein."

Re: Cook, Harry
"My Dad Victor Cook of Baytown, Tx. while in the Navy during WWII, went to West Virginia with a buddy named D.R. Harry whom he is now trying to locate. Dad can not remember the town he went to by train but from what he says, it almost has to be the Bluefield area. If anyone knows the whereabouts of Mr. Harry please contact me. Incidentally, Mr. Harry's father is believed to have been a coal miner. The two veterans were based at Camp Perry and Norfolk, Va. Candy Shelton."

Re: Parsons, Day, Whittemore
"Hi Benita, My name is Liz Parsons. My husband is the ggrandson of George Day and Maggie Day. Somehow George was related to Mac Day. Our Family has always thought they were brothers? My husband's name is Andy Parsons, raised in War, W.Va. His father was Ora Parsons, and Mother was Ruth Gautnly Parsons. Ora was the son of Frillen Parsons and Ella Day Parsons Whittemore. After Frillen was killed by another Day relative, Ella married Ernest Whittemore. Ella is buried in the Big Creek Cemetery. Our family has really enjoyed spreading your site around, and we have found info here that we didn't have. My husband loved seeing the hole-in-the-wall again. He visits a sister who still lives in War. Have you run across these Days in your search? Thanks in advance for any info you can give me. Liz Parsons."

Re: Law, Kerley
"I was born in McDowell County. My Grandparents were Ernest and Sarah Law of War and Clinton and Mary Kerley of Berwind. Any information about these families would be appreciated. I'm trying to find out what happened to the Law's house in War. It was a big green house with white trim on the hill above Warriormines Road and below William Pokey road that went up the hill. There was a creek below the property. The house was directly up the hill from the old company store. I spent many hours walking in the hills and would love to hear from anyone up there. Kristin Kerley Rossi."

Re: Day, Cyphers
"Hi, I have found a few photos of Days in my Grandmothers pictures. I will get my son to try to scan them and send, but they are old and faded. But we will try tomorrow. My Father was Thomas Jefferson Cyphers born 12-27-1882 in Smythe County VA. His parents-George Washington Cyphers and Marilda or Matilda Christian Cyphers (from Bandy VA.) George's parents were Amos and Frances Cyphers and I think he had a brother - Augustus (there is a grave for Augustus Cyphers in Smythe County Va.) Which is near Saltville, VA. I know that my Dad used to go to English and War my Uncle Jim Cyphers lived at War and was in the Legislature). When I have time I will hunt up more of the info and send to you. Take care Roberta."

Re: Basham, Shutt, Taylor, Walker
"I have been researching my ansestors. I have had good fortune in tracing 5, 3 have totally eluded all efforts as if they never existed. If anyone can give me a lead or help, I would greatly appreciate it. The ones I can't find anything on are: Lewis Allen Basham, married Mary Francis Shutt (another one) and Ardelia Taylor, who married Charles Willie Jasper Walker. I have a book that goes back almost forever on the Walkers, but can't find anything on Ardelia Taylor. If anyone has any info on these 3 great-grandparents, I would appreciate it. I think I have hit every web site, some I wish I hadn't and these 3 just are not to be found. You may email me or list a message. Email would be better, since I sometimes go extended time without checking the message boards, due to my illness (disabiling). Either would be a blessing though. Thanks and may God bless you. Lenna"

Re: Day (Specifically Jane Day)
"At first I was not gonna say anything till I saw that she had twins and was also part indian. I am researching days that are Indian. My gggrandmother was Millie whose mother was named Brite Day. Well you stated she had a set of twins, well ... twins were very common you see Millie had several sets of twins. Just thought it might connect somehow. If I do run across Jane I will let you know. I was wondering also with the name Jane. Millie named my greatgandmother Jane too. Several little connections nothing positive just thought I would let you know. I also have a picture and am not sure if it is Millie or Brite Day. Lisa"
