Fun Facts To Know and Tell About MISSOURI
from Junior Girl Scout Troop #588

Our nickname: The Show-Me State
Our state bird: The Bluebird
Our state tree: The Dogwood

We are located in the American heartland and as our license plates tell it, Missouri is "where the rivers run". We are bordered on the east by the mighty Mississippi River and the great Missouri River runs through our center. We are also home to the Ozark Scenic Riverways where many families enjoy camping and canoeing as well as the Lake of the Ozarks with over 61,000 acres of water where boating and fishing rule! Missouri has many smaller lakes scattered around the state for loads of family water fun.

Missouri has lots of great places to visit. Our largest city to the west, Kansas City is known all over for its great BBQ and is the home of the Kansas City Royals baseball and Kansas City Chiefs football teams. It also hosts the Worlds of Fun/Oceans of Fun theme parks. On the eastern side lies St. Louis, the "Gateway to the West" with its awesome Gateway Arch. Six Flags and Hurricane Harbor theme parks are located in St. Louis along with the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. Every baseball fan knows that the "Home Run King" Mark McGwire plays first base for the Cards! Down in the southern part of Missouri is Branson, the live entertainment capital of the U.S.

As you travel through the state, you can visit many neat parks, festivals and antiques shops; walk or bike on the Katy Trail (a statewide trail system traveling along the old MKT Railroad), or visit the homes of some of our famous citizens. Daniel Boone, Mark Twain, Walt Disney, Harry S. Truman, and George Washington Carver all have museums of their homes here. During your travels, you will enjoy the best of all four seasons.

Junior Girl Scout Troop #588 is part of the Heart of Missouri Girl Scout Council with an office located in our state capital Jefferson City.
