Introducing
Lillie Mae and the Dixie Gospel-Aires
This Ohio based Bluegrass gospel group originated around 1959. After a ten year retirement from music, we decided to start singing again in 1995 and plan on going on as long as the Lord has us to. We are proud to be singing the gospel, some of us for over 40 years. We have seen lot of changes and traveled a lot of miles over the years, even performing as guests at the Grand Ole Opry six times, but one thing has stayed the same, Jesus is alive and well and sitting at his Father's right hand. We hope to be a blessing to all with our music but most of all we like to give Jesus the praise for everything He has done. Thank You Lord.
Current group members include:
Noah Hollon (Banjo & Vocals)-Of Alger, Ohio, an original member of the group, you have to search long and hard to find any to compare to this "Fantastic" picker. He has committed over 40 years to playing with this group.
Charlie Whitaker (Mandolin & Vocals)-Charlie, from Kenton, Ohio, is married to Lillie Mae and together, they have been singing since their teenage years (we won't say how long that's been). Along with Noah, they formed the group around 1959 and the three have covered many miles since. Charlie spent a well educated year on the road with Bill Monroe (1981) singing bass in the gospel quartet and driving the bus. A very rich, deep bass singer and a very fine mandolin picker.
Lillie Mae (Guitar & Vocals)-Lillie, also of Kenton, Ohio, has been singing the gospel since she was so small they had to stand her on a chair for the congregation to see her ?? years ago. She was called to minister in song and preaching at a very young age of 13. That is what she is doing today! Her musical background originated from her father, the late Leroy Haney, a dynamic singer and songwriter and the backbone of the group.
Jimmy Miller (Bass & Vocals)-"Wow!" is what most say after hearing this man sing. Such a power tenor voice, I think sometimes he has no limit on his range. Jim is from Connersville, Indiana and joined the group in 1977. He's left a couple of times but then he always comes back. I think he is here for good this time, (I hope). A fine bass player and an absolutely superb singer.
Dwayne McCumbers (Dobro)-From the Mansfield, Ohio area and the newest member of the group, we surely are thankful to have him. He is a blessing to this group, one of the best Dobro players that you will ever hear and also a fine gentleman. We thank God for him. He has added so much to our group.
Jeff Whitaker (Lead Guitar & Vocals)-Jeff is from Kenton, Ohio and the youngest of Lillie Mae and Charlie's three sons. Jeff writes a lot of the material the group performs. A very fine lead player and gives all the credit to God and his family. He has been with the group since 1995.
