Holiday Hang Out-Members Only

Come hang out with other YFDLA members...

Our first Annual Bunko Blitz will be held on Monday, Dec. 17th at Gale Fisher’s home.

Festivities to begin at 6:30 pm. We will be having a gift exchange and this year’s theme is “Christmas Ornaments”. Please purchase an ornament, not to exceed $5.00. Creativity is strongly encouraged.

If you have not played Bunko or the White Elephant exchange, you are in for a real treat, just ask Carla or Amanda! Anyone wishing to have us taste test any of their holiday specialties, feel free to share. Refreshments will be provided (or BYOB).

Next Meeting

Dec. 10th, Station 1 at 7:00 p.m.

Thanks to all that Helped

On Saturday Nov. 10th, we held our second annual Taco Roll Fundraiser, at YFD Station #2. We rolled hundreds of tacos and managed to fill all the orders in record time. Some of us would like to thank Lucy for the private lessons the night before. She definitely whipped us into shape. We would also like to thank David and Daniel, the guys that kept the assembly line stocked at all times (and wouldn’t go away).

Too many people were involved in taking orders, shopping for the supplies, rolling, bagging, sorting and cleaning to mention everyone by name, but please know, all of your hard work has provided us with the funds necessary to sponsor families for the holidays and emergency warm clothing for six children. We would also like to thank the CREW at Station 2….only we hardly ever saw them, they were so busy….Hope you enjoyed the food and ice cream ! ! !

3rd Annual basket Brigade

Each year YFDLA has gathered to prepare, package, decorate and deliver baskets full of home baked goodies. The baskets are taken to each of the fire stations and the communications center on New Year’s Eve and again on New Year’s Day.

The baskets are our way of thanking the crews for all their hard work and gives them a sweet start on the New Year.

This year’s event is being hosted by Tammy Smith. Please join us on Sunday, Dec. 30th at 4:00 p.m. Children are welcome and make great helpers. Those who lack culinary skills, as do I, are encouraged to bring fresh fruit, nuts and/or candy.

Not sure how to get there?

Votes By Phone

During the taco roll, attempts to conduct a meeting was aborted. New business was brought up with some discussion regarding the local burned out family of eight, but no decisions were made. After gathering all the necessary information, and identifying their specific needs, members were notified by phone. A vote was conducted and you voted unanimously to purchase warm apparel for each child. Arrangements are being made to take the family to one of the local store's to purchase those items. This family was also provided to us by the Salvation Army and will be this year’s recipient of the pre-prepared Thanksgiving Meal.

Thanks to all who donated baked goodies and clothes. Keep cleaning out those closets, every little bit helps!!

Mark Your Calendars

This year YFDLA is co-hosting the traditional fall festival with a little twist…..something for the kids. This year’s event will be held at the West Academy Gym located at 2081 Kennedy Lane on Dec. 16th from 1:00-5:00 p.m.

The gym is equipped with tons of padded fun for kids of all ages. Instructors will be on hand to ensure the safety of all our energetic children.

Santa will be dropping by during the festivities and would like to bring a little something for your child. Please RSVP to one of the board members with the names and ages of the children who will be attending (phone #’s listed above). The crews will still be rotating in to visit with their families during this time (and picking up some of those sweet treats). This would be an excellent opportunity to meet some of our new hires and their families, make new friends and see some of the old ones.

Final details will be discussed during our next meeting scheduled for Dec. 10th, station 1 at 7:00 p.m. See you there!

IT'S A MEMBER'S MOMENT

This spot was designed to highlight one of our members so we could all get to know one another a little better. However, I was so moved by the out pour of things donated by our members, I felt compelled to share.

On Wed. Nov. 14th we starting calling members to give them the sizes of the six children who lost all of their things when their house burned down. Members were encouraged to clean out their closets and bring the donations to my house. The items gathered were delivered to them the day before Thanksgiving.

I not only received the much needed donations of clothing for the children, (which was the only thing we asked for) our members brought bedding, books, brand new games for the children to play, food and lots more.

We are truly blessed to have so many members able to open their hearts and help a local family through a tough time. It’s that “behind the scenes” action that makes all the difference in the world. Especially to a child.

Thanks again to all who donated! ! !
