![]() 2000 was a very tough year for Kyle. Kyle's oldest son Adam was racing a full schedule in the Busch Grand National division - and was set to run a limited schedule on the Winston Cup series, preparing him for the move this year to Winston Cup full-time! Adam was quite a talented driver, and was predicted to rival his grandfather, Richard. The Petty family was back strong, thanks to Adam - the first fourth generation star in any sport. Sadly, on May 12, 2000, Adam's life was cut short. During practice at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Adams car crashed into the wall in turn 3. After much thought, Kyle stepped down from the #44 Hot Wheels Pontiac, and from Winston cup for the remainder of the season - replaced by Steve Grissom. Instead, Kyle drove Adams #45 Sprint Chevrolet in the Busch series for the remainder of the season - and subsequently brought the #45 team to Winston cup this year, as was intended with Adam. We all wish Kyle a most successful year with this very special team. I am sure Adam is smiling down from heaven upon him! ![]() ![]() While surfing the net for more Kyle pages, I stumbled across an interesting site.
