The kitchen originally had a green (torn in spots)vinyl flooring. I had covered it with gray/slate blue/dusty rose tiles which I hated before I even finished it. So I never finished tiling those. The walls were covered with yellow tiles. The cabinets are plywood that is stained and has high gloss coating on it. All the appliances and furnace cover were mismatched colors.
What we did: We freshened the walls with off-white paint and covered over the ceramic yellow tiles with a white sand texture paint. It now looks like a faux brick finish. We painted the cabinets black. the top cabinets have an 'X' stroke with the paint brush so it adds a pattern to it. All the appliances were painted black with the high heat matte paint. We only did the front of the fridge. It actually matches the microwave now. The stove plate covers were spray painted a hammered metal paint. And all cabinet handles were spray painted chrome. All the plugs and light fixture switches were painted a speckled black/gray paint. The tile floor was taken up and a new vinyl tile gray slate floor was put down. I also put black marble contact paper over the counter tops. We changed curtains, added a chrome towel bar, and added some black iron accessories. all and all I think it came out really good. Especially since we really didn't know what we were doing! These aren't the best pictures because the black appears ultra dark and the white washes out, but you get the idea!
Next year's project: The living room! We are going to make it a comfy lodge/Native American feel!
